3-D Printed Adaptive Bite Switch Compatible With Adaptive X-box Controller
This 3-D printed adaptive bite switch is designed to work with an Adaptive X-box Controller and help users with limited motor control access games more easily. A bite switch can be useful for individuals with cerebral palsy or other motor disabilities who may have limited hand use but can reliably control jaw movement. This project is intended to be a simple, affordable assistive device that activates with very low pressure.
Unlike a standard controller button, this switch is designed to be easier to activate and can be connected to the Adaptive X-box Controller as an external input. When assembled, the bite switch sends a button press to the controller, allowing the user to interact with games and other tools in a more accessible way.
You will build a 3-D printed bite switch that connects to the Adaptive X-box Controller. The switch uses a button mechanism and wiring system inside the printed housing. When the user applies light pressure, the switch activates and sends an input to the controller.

Print STL
Print the bite switch STL on a 3-D printer. You can scale the model up or down depending on the user’s needs and comfort.
After printing, remove any supports and check that the housing is smooth and properly formed. Since this device will be used as a bite switch, make sure the printed part is clean and free of rough edges before assembly.

Wiring Onto Bite Switch
Solder one side of the alligator cable to the button switch and the other side to the mother cable. Once the wires are fused, cover the exposed connection points with heat seal tubing.
Next, hot glue the button system to the bottom of the 3-D printed housing. Make sure the hole faces upward so the switch can be activated correctly when the device is assembled.
You may also heat seal the top of the bite switch if needed.
Important: When using the heat gun, be careful not to melt or deform the 3-D printed housing.
Connection to X-box Adaptive Controller
Solder the father cable to one side of the alligator cord. Then solder the cable that plugs into the Adaptive X-box Controller to the other side of the alligator cord.
After all soldering is complete, cover each exposed wire connection with heat seal tubing. This helps protect the wiring, improves durability, and reduces the chance of the switch failing during use.
Put It All Together
Plug the mother cable into the father cable. Then plug the completed port into the Adaptive X-box Controller.
Once everything is connected, test the bite switch by pressing it gently to make sure it activates the intended input. If the switch does not respond correctly, check the soldered connections, cable alignment, and button placement inside the printed housing.
Your adaptive bite switch is now assembled and ready for use.
