3 Free Ways to Convert PowerPoint (PPT) Presentation Into Video
Due to the coronavirus lockdown, I had to study at home. Even though I didn’t go to school, I still needed to complete my project. And my professor said that we must make a project report with PPT. So, I made a video presentation and sent it to him. To my surprise, he liked it a lot and gave me a high grade.
Do you want to know how I did it? Actually, it is quite simple, as long as you find the right way - I just converted my PPT presentation into a video. In fact, I tried 3 ways to convert PPT. Each of them has its advantages. Thus, I will share all the methods with you. You can pick the right one and avoid detours
Export Video From PPT Directly in MS PowerPoint
If you want to turn PPT slides straight to a video without
annotations or narration, you actually can use the built-in tool of MS PowerPoint.
Here are the steps you can follow.
- Open Your PPT File
Please open your PPT file with MS PowerPoint. Then go to the File menu.
- Adjust the Settings
Find the Export tab on the left panel. Select Create a Video, and you will see multiple setting options on the right. You can change the output video quality. There are 4K, 1080p, 720p, and 480p for you to choose from. You can also set the time spent on each slide. After the adjustment, click the Create Video button.
- Create a Video
A Save As window will pop up automatically. Please enter the output file name and find a folder to save the video. Then click Save. Just wait a minute, and you can find the converted video in the folder you chose.
Record the Slide Show in MS PowerPoint
And if you want to record your presentation with marks, voice, and even webcam, you can try the following instructions.
- Go to Slide Show
I assume that you have opened the PPT file. Now go to Slide Show and find the Record Slide Show button.
- Record Slide Show
In the recording interface, you can adjust several settings first. As you can see, there are 3 icons in the bottom right corner. They can be used to enable/disable your microphone, webcam, and the display of webcam video.
Next to these icons are colors, highlighter, pen, and eraser, with which you can mark on your slides while presenting.
Once you complete the adjustment, you can click on the Record button to start recording. During the recording process, you can pause and resume the recording as you like. If you finish your presentation, you can click the Close icon and go back to MS PowerPoint.
- Make a Video
Then navigate to File > Export > Create a Video. Pick the video quality you need. Here you should choose Use Recorded Timings and Narrations. After that, click Create Video. Select a folder to save the video and wait patiently. It may take a while.
Use a Free Online Screen Recorder
The methods above are quite simple, as you don’t need to install extra software on your computer. But they are quite limited – I can only export video in MP4 or WMV format and I have to wait a very, very long time to get the exported video.
So, I tried another way recommended by my friend. – to use a free screen recorder. That’s very inspiring! Good recorder software can record your screen, your webcam, your voice. It will 100% keep the presentation activity. And the notes, are professional. I mean, the line can be straight, the circle can be round. You will understand what I’m talking about if you have seen the second picture in step 2. Anyway, when I know this method, I start all over again. Yes, I want to make it perfect.
Okay, now let’s begin.
- Find a Qualified Screen Recorder
The tool I found is FVC Free Screen Recorder: https://www.free-videoconverter.net/free-screen-recorder/
There are many same tools on the market. Most of them are similar. I chose this just because I have used other tools from this free site. You can find another article I posted in Instructables: https://www.instructables.com/id/How-to-Convert-Large-Video-File-Into-MP4-Format-On/
- Download the Launcher
Go to the website of FVC Screen Recorder. Then click Start Recording to download the launcher first. Follow the on-screen instructions to install the launcher on your computer.
- Change Recording Settings
After launching the program, please select the Full Screen option from the recording area list. In fact, you can customize the recording area based on your need. But a full screen can make the presentation look better.
You can turn on/off the webcam, system sound, and microphone according to your needs. Turning On means the item that you choose will be recorded and added to your video. Click REC to start your recording.
- Record Presentation
After clicking REC, you will see a control bar in the corner. Go to MS PowerPoint. Select Slide Show and click From Beginning. Now you can make your presentation.
During the presentation, you are able to add text, line, arrow, and other marks to your slides. And when you need to switch to the next slide, you can click on the Bin icon to clear all marks. After your presentation, click the Stop icon to end the recording.
Your recording will be saved automatically to your computer. You can play, rename, share, delete the recording as you like.
Isn’t that efficient? Now it’s your time to make your PPT presentation into a video.
PS: The MS PowerPoint I use is 2019, other versions may be a little different. But the operations should be the same. If you have any questions, you can Ask Question or Comment below.
