A/C Refrigerant Recharge_R134a Compatible

A major problem that occurs each summer is that the vehicles tend to use the refrigerant in the a/c system too fast and recharge is needed. Few know how to complete a refrigerant recharge and find the need to visit an A/C shop that is often closed or too expensive to utilize. This guide will provide step by step on how to complete the recharge at home with the necessary tools. All that you need is to confirm usually with the auto parts clerk the type of refrigerant that your vehicle utilizes. We will be discussing the R-134a (most common) and the compatible gauge. With an easy 20 steps from beginning to end.

Purchase Material Needed

Readers will purchase materials from auto parts store

Arrange Materials in a Work Bench

Open packaging and place materials on the work bench

Turn Vehicle On

Insert key in ignition

Turn the key to ON mode

Turn A/C on to Highest Level

Turned the A/C On

Readers will need to turn the A/C dial to speed of Max or 4

Turn A/C to Coldest

Open Hood

Locate the hood handle and pull up.

Handle is usually located at the bottom left-hand side of the dashboard

When the handle is pulled up all the ay it allows you will hear a “pop” sound on the front of the vehicle

Lift the Hood

Locate the lock that is in front of the vehicle.

Locate A/C Valve

Locate the green and black tops at the far-left hand side of the motor

Uncover the Cool Air Valve

Unscrew the black top

Keeping it secure will need to be re-screwed when done

Gather the Tools and Calibrate Gauge

The meter gauge can be preset to 0 by pressing the trigger on the gauge.

Combine the Tools

Secure the refrigerant to the gauge

Refrigerant is attached to the thick part of the gauge system

Insert Gauge to the Uncapped A/C Valve

Place the black bottom part of the gauge hose in between your index and middle finger

Use your thumb to apply light pressure against the index and middle finger

When the gauge is inserted into the A/C Valve release the black gauge part of the hose

Lightly wiggle the black part to ensure it is secured.

Calculate Recharge Needs

Press on the trigger once and wait for the reading

If reading is between white and low green (continue)

If reading is between yellow and red (stop now)

Add Refrigerant

Press and hold the trigger on the gauge reader.

Slightly shake the coolant up and down.

Confirm Air Is Cooling

Remove the gauge from the A/C Valve

Cover the Valve

With the black top that was securely kept use it to seal the A/C Valve

Close the Hood

Remove the tools from the motor

Close the car hood

Circulate Air

Allow air to circulate in the cabin for at least 3 minutes

You may open the windows if you wish to allow the free-on to move out of the vehicle and maintain only cool air in the cabin

All Set

Remove the refrigerant from gauge and set the meter to 0

Turn vehicle off

Store your A/C gauge

Dispose of the refrigerant can if empty
