Air Compressor Cart

I have a portable air compressor (California Air Tools 4620AC) that is powerful, yet still decently heavy. When moving it into the house or around the yard to do projects, it's cumbersome to move. I tried strapping it to a moving dolly, but ended up carrying the compressor and the dolly up and down my front stairs. This solution has a quick-release that gives the flexibility of a cart-based compressor or a handheld compressor.

Supplies

  1. Air Compressor with a compatible structure (I used a California Air Tools 4620AC)
  2. Franklin 19x29 inch folding cart from Harbor Freight (SKU 58300)
  3. Merlin 50 ft retractable hose from Harbor Freight (SKU 70868)
  4. YSaekYeo Shovel Mounts from Amazon
  5. 1x4 wood x 17.5"
  6. 4x full thread #10 self-piercing wood/metal screws.
  7. 4x 1/4" x 2" bolts x 2" with nylon lock nuts

Measure Your Air Compressor

Assemble the cart from Harbor Freight. Unless you have the same model as I bought, you'll want to make sure your compressor has some low brackets or tubing that you can attach to. The measurements here are for the California Air Tools 4620AC.

Attach Spacer Wood Strip

I used 2 of the 1/4" x 2" bolts and the 1" x 4" x 17.5" pine board for this. I used a clamp to hold the wood in place and drilled through the wood and the metal platform, attaching the nuts underneath. I probably should have used a washer on top but I thought that most of the motion would be horizontal.

Measure, Mark and Attach Shovel Mounts

The key is to align the outside of the shovel mount with the side of the tubular frame on the air compressor. Then use the self-tapping wood/metal screws to attach it. I angled mine with the center towards the front of the cart slightly to help them fit properly and avoid rubbing the tightening handle against the tank when tightening it.

Attach Air Hose Reel

I bought a different "brand" of air hose reel but the mounting brackets look the same as the Merlin one I linked. The hose reel fits on one of the handles. I marked and drilled the holes, attaching with two 1/4" x 2" bolts. There are 3 holes but I only used the bottom two because... that's all I had room for. I could have used a board for stability but there isn't that much clearance.
