Ants on a Log

Do you think the insects outdoors are misbehaving? Do you think they need to be shown good manners? How about make ants on a log to show them you don't have to eat all the fruits and vegetables to have fun!

Crayola Air-dry Clay

Pallet knife

Thick wooden stick

Bowl of water

Super glue

Paint brush

Green acrylic paint

Yellow acrylic paint

Black acrylic paint

White acrylic paint

Brown acrylic paint

Rip chunks of clay and place them all over the stick. It should look fully covered, not showing any wood. Dip your fingers in water and smooth out the layer of clay.

Take a pallet knife and draw lines around the log. On the both ends draw spirals, then smooth out some details with water.

Once the water is dried, use brown paint to color the whole log in.

Roll a ball and squish it into a rectangle. Pinch one side to be more smaller than the larger side. Use a pallet knife to draw a line in the middle and then draw protruding side lines on the sides (3).

Paint the leaf in green acrylic paint. Wait for the paint to full dry.

Attach the leaf onto the end of the log smooth the leaf's end with water.

Roll 2 small balls of of clay, then attach them together. Make 2 small balls for the eyes and squish them on to the one of the larger balls. Poke holes in the middle of both eyes, using a pallet knife. Make 2 very small balls for the legs and attach them on to the other larger ball.

Repeat this 5 times.

Paint the body with black acrylic paint, then switch to yellow acrylic paint for the 2 eyes.

Use super glue to stick the ants onto the log. I find it easier to put drops of glue onto both abdomens.
