I made this because I wanted to stop my basketball from rolling everywhere and keep it in one place. But that isn't all, as it isn't just to hold your basketball but also your shoes. When you play basketball, you need a special type of shoe that grips the court. However, these shoes cannot be worn outside, or they will ruin the traction on the bottom of the shoe. To stop this, players usually wear a different shoe, and once they are at the gym, they change into their basketball shoes. But now your outside pair of shoes is just lying around. You can try to put it in a backpack, but it is so inconvenient to put your shoes inside, zip the bag, and when you are done, open the bag and struggle to get your shoes out. The two poles on the sides of the basketball holder aren't just to support the basketball, but to hang your outside pairs of shoes so you can easily access them after playing.

Supplies

To make this project, I used PLA by 3d printing it.

Making Stand

Basketball stand fusion picture.png

Originally, I was just going to make a stand for a basketball.

Making Tray

I decided to add a tray to my existing design by making a hole in the stand to use some cylinder pillars to hold up a tray

Switching Pillar Shape

I decided to use rectangular pillars to make the tray stand sturdier

Touching Up and Making 1st Prototype

Finished prototype.png

This is the final prototype I had created after tweaking some of the dimensions to fit the ball better

Making Major Changes

tray too big screenshot for instructables.png

My tray and my basketball stand were too big for even the biggest printer in my class. I was able to make the stand smaller while still making it work but if I made the tray smaller, it wouldnt be very useful. So I decided to remove the tray completely and just make it a basketball stand.

Going Back to Original Design

The main reason I had used rectangular pillars was that I was using the tray. The rectangular pillars would support it better. While I was originally going to put in no pillars, I decided to make a shoe hanger. To make this work, circular pillars worked best because they were smaller, so any type of shoe could hang from them. I also changed my baskeball stand to circular cuts on the top so it could fit the new circular poles.

Printing Final Design of Basketball Stand

After a series of failed prints because of support issues or it being a little too big, I finally got the basketball stand.

Printing Poles

IMG_1676.jpeg

I was able to print the poles on the first try, and they came out perfectly

Final Design

Poles perfectly fit in the gaps on the basketball stand. The basketball stand perfectly fits a basketball. I was officially complete.
