I crocheted a beanie from yarn

Supplies

Medium weight yarn

5.5 millimeter crochet hook

Scissors

Yarn needle

Starting the Circle

Step 1: Make a Magic Ring and Crochet the Crown

Create a magic ring and crochet 10–12 half double crochets into the ring. Pull it tight to close the center.

**Tip:** Place a stitch marker in the first stitch of each round.

Continuing the Circle

Step 2: Increase the Circle

Continue crocheting in rounds, increasing evenly until the circle is about 6–7 inches (15–18 cm) across for an adult beanie.

Example:

Round 2: 2 hdc in each stitch

Round 3: 1 hdc, increase around

Round 4: 2 hdc, increase around

Check: The circle should lay flat without curlin

---

## (20–23 cm) before folding the brim.

Making the Sides

Step 3: Crochet the Sides

Once the crown is large enough, stop increasing and crochet 1 hdc in each stitch around.

This will make the sides of the beanie start to curve downward.

Continue until the hat reaches the top of the ears (or desired le

ngth).

Doing the Brim

Step 4: Add a Ribbed Brim

For a stretchy brim:

1. Chain 8–10 stitches.

2. Work back along the chain using single crochet.

3. Slip stitch the strip to the hat.

4. Repeat around the entire bottom edge

Finishing

Step 5: Finish Off

* Cut the yarn, leaving a 6-inch tail.

* Pull the tail through the last loop.

* Weave in all loose ends with a yarn needle.

Finished Beanie

You should now have a simple, warm beanie. You can customize it with:

A pom-pom

Different colors

Stripes

Folded brim

For an average adult beanie, aim for:

* Crown diameter: 6–7 inches

(15–18 cm)

* Finished height: 8–9 inches (20–23 cm) before folding the brim.
