Before Vesuvius: a Pompeian Home in TINKERCAD
I made a recreation of an Ancient Pompeian Domus before the eruption of Mount Vesuvius. The design displays a large, brick villa with a massive garden and fountain, colored marble pillars, stone walls and rooms, wood framing, and clay shingles. This build is made up of over 500 blocks and is scaled on a 50 by 50 inch grid. (This creation is for the Ancient History category)
Supplies
- Stone Bricks
- Pillars
- Grass
- Trees and Bushes
- Shingles
- Wood Planks
- Fountain
- Statue
It is imperative that the measurements are imperial (Inches)
Base Columns
- Create a pillar by taking a pre made column head, and placing it on top of two separate stone-textured cylinders, each with differing colors in order to give an older, "terracotta like" look.
Wooden Balcony Frame
- Take wooden planks such as these, and shape/size to make this wooden frame, allowing for a grand oversight of the beautiful ancient gardens (Which we'll make later) :)
Garden With Fountain
- Make a wide, white box.
- On the edges of the box, line up small, white rectangular bricks around the box.
- Take a blue rectangle that is about the size of the box, color it blue, and turn off the opacity option (see through).
- Finally, place any statue you would like in the center of your fountain.
- Now, for the garden part, take a dark green, grass-textured block and place it down.
- Then, take light green balls of different sizes and clump them up to form simple bushes.
- After, place long, thin, brown cylinders and a leafy texture on top to create trees. The assortment of the bushes and trees does not matter, so do as you like.
Infrastructure
- This is a big step. Take a brick wall, and color it tan.
- From there, create rooms and rooftops to match the image shown. There should be a large main room, with other walls and rooms connected to it.
- Make sure to create windows and doors by adding invisible blocks and grouping parts together.
- From there, place the wooden framing on top.
- Then, take some shingles, and place them on top of the wooden frame and on the left side of the build to begin the roofing process.
Extensions
- From there, add another small room to the right of the main room facing the front of the house.
- Add shingles all around the inside of the house, and place the pillars underneath them.
- Then, add a light, beige colored floor underneath the shingles with small steps leading to the courtyard.
Fencing
Take a brick wall from before. Change the properties to these settings:
- Height: 1.97
- Width: 1.97
- Depth: 0.32
- Rows: 5
- Columns: 3
- Placement Noise: 0.05
- Size Noise: 0.05
- Shape Noise: 0.07
- Offset Even Rows: On
- Smooth Subdivisions: 2
- Hard Subdivisions: 3
Everything that is not mentioned here is set to 0.
After creating the brick fence, copy and paste it until a border is created around the part of the house that is not covered by walls. Make sure to leave a gap parallel to the stairs; This will be important later.
Finishing Touches
- Take the full garden from before, and place the fountain parallel to the stairs and the gap in the fence.
- From there, leave a gap between the fountain and the grassy garden areas. Make sure to not fill out the whole courtyard with gardens, as it will look messy.
After finalizing and putting everything in its place, your stunning Ancient Pompeian House will be finished, and soon after, the crowd will Erupt, just like Mount Vesuvius!
