I made a biodegradable pot made out of paper towel rolls and newspaper. I will show you step by step how to make it. Enjoy!

Supplies

  1. Shallow tub
  2. medium sized pot
  3. 5-6 paper towel rolls
  4. 3-6 newspaper sheets
  5. flour
  6. warm water
  7. sharp knife.
  8. paintbrush (optional)

Material Gathering

Step one is to gather all the materials, which include a shallow tub, a medium-sized pot, 5–6 paper towel rolls, 3–6 sheets of newspaper, flour, warm water, and a sharp knife. (The picture above is the cut up paper towel rolls and newspaper)

Flour and Water Paste

Step two is to make the paste. You can use any amount, but it should be half flour and half water. You can make more whenever it is needed.

Put the flour into the shallow tub. Next, pour in the warm water a little bit at a time. The end product should look like cake batter. Always remember, if you put too much water in, just add a little flour.

Dipping and Placing

Step three is to add the paper towel roll scraps. First, collect all of the paper towel roll scraps. Next, dip each scrap into the paste. Place the coated scraps onto the outside (or inside) of the pot, using the paste as glue. Continue adding and layering the scraps until the entire pot is completely covered. This is when the paintbrush comes in, you may want to use the paint brush to paint some of the paste onto the scraps. The finished layer should look something like the image above. WARNING, do NOT completely submerge the scraps. Only dip one half.

Let It Dry

Step four is the easiest step of them all. Set the pot aside and let it completely dry. Keep in mind it could take up to 24 hours. Once completely dry, move on to step five.

Taking the Pot Off

Step five is the final step! Now that the pot is completely dry, carefully remove the paper towel layer from the pot. Gently slide it off, and do not force it if it feels stuck, as this could damage the pot. Since it is completely dry, you should be able to slide the entire layer right off. Congratulations! You now have a biodegradable pot!
