In this project I will be making a bird feeder out of recycled materials and trash. I hope you enjoy making this with me and that it brings life to your backyard.

Firstly cut off the head of your plastics spoons using your pliers or scissors. Make sure to leave a little bit of the spoon handle left. Then cut four equal sized an evenly spaced out holes in the yogurt container. Also make sure that they are all the same height. These will be the places where your birds can perch on to eat the food. Then glue the spoon handle into the hole and make sure it is long enough to catch the bird feed that will pour into the spoon. Remember to also leave a little space once gluing in your spoon so that what is remaining of the spoon handle wall catch and pour out the bird feed onto the spoon head. Remember to also make sure the bird feed level is higher than the spoons so that it will be able to pour out through the holes onto the spoons.

Making the Feeding Tray

Now, like you did with your perches, make three evenly sized and spaced out holes of about 2 cm long and .5 cm high. Then get your old plastic plate and glue it to the bottom of the yogurt container making sure that the yoghurt container is positioned somewhat in the middle of the plate.

Personally I really wanted to paint my bird feeder but you don't have to. I had yellow and white paint so that's what I decided to use. After putting on a coat I could still see much of the detail from the plate and the yogurt container so I painted quite a few coats.

The Final Step

Lastly make two holes on the opposite sides of the container to thread your string through. After doing this pour the bird feed into the container and then hang it up somewhere around your garden. Hopefully it will attract many birds and I hope you really enjoyed this project.

PS: there is a video on how to tie a basic knot that will work for your bird feeder.
