Calypso
Calypso is an online, interactive community that provides augmented reality and audio experiences. Community members can access our website and directly see augmented reality filters embedded into the website!
Supplies
To create this project, creators need:
- Accessible and responsive website (we used a Squarespace template)
-HMTL/CSS knowledge to create URL for each asset
-3D Modeler for creating assets (Rhinoceros 3D or Blender)
-Unity to animate assets with movement
-Spotify account to create audible assets
Create Website
The website is the place to host all the collective experiences. We went with Squarespace due to ease of usage and it allows us to focus on the creation of AR filters/Audio components (we recommend this!). In order to embed personal aspects of code, a business Squarespace account must be purchased but it provides a lot of opportunity for site growth.
Create AR Filters in Rhino + Unity
Play around in Rhinoceros 3D or Blender and see what shapes you can make. Add color, textures, whatever else you think will help customize and make the experience immersive. Export the file type as either .fbx or .obj and import the file into Unity. Here, you will be able to add animation to the file. Finally, export the Unity file as an glb and usdz file type.
Create a Collaborative Playlist
Using Spotify, set up an account for your project. Ours, Calypso, has a playlist assigned to each experience. Make these playlists collaborative so your users can add audio.
Add Augmented Reality Files Into Glitch
Using this link, remix the glitch example and add your glb and usdz files from earlier. In the index.html tab, replace the "src" link with your glb link and "ios-src" with the usdz link. In the upper left-hand corner, click share and copy the live site link. Using this iframe generator, insert the glitch link to generate an iframe that can be embedded into your website. Adjust the frame dimensions to your preferences, copy the generated code at the bottom of the page, and simply embed that code into your website.
Get Outside and Test Your Creation!
Our main experience focuses on Viewpoint Trailhead and we went out to test our augmented reality filters!
