This was one of my more ambitious projects that i have done in the whole time of me working with cardboard. This project is very large and is around 2 1/2 ft long. This replica is created from the modern Marine Corps rocket launcher. This can be modified slightly to actually fire though i did not take the time due to this project taking me around 17 hours. So, without further ad due, let's get into it.

Supplies

Supplies needed

  1. Hot Glue
  2. Scissors
  3. Cardboard
  4. X-Acto Knife
  5. Cardstock
  6. Time+Sanity
  7. Wheat Paste (Optional)

Create the Barrel

Here you will create the tube for the launcher. i just used some old picture boxes and then stripped off the top lay so i was left with the ripple corrugation. Then i rolled the cardboard into a tube with a 3.3 inch diameter.

Build Front Handle and Mount

Here create the handle by layering about six layers of cardboard and then building the rotating mount and base. Then finally mount the handle to the barrel at a slight angle from straight down.

Build and Mount Rear Handle

Here create the trigger and then the main handle. Using rubber bands to apply tension to the trigger and toothpicks to hold in place. Then put both parts of the handle together and cut a small rim around handle area. Final, use cardstock to cover the corrugated openings and give a comfy grip. Then mount to the launcher.

Create and Mount Shoulder Rest

IMG_0280.JPG

Here you will build the shoulder rest. Make a small platform on the launcher were you can add the rest. Then build the main shoulder rest and add small details like slits and cuts. Mount the shoulder rest on the launcher. Finally build the round front rest and mount.

Add Details

Here you will just add some of the smaller details and the front magnifier scope. Add to top bars to mount a strap.

Build Rear Blast Cone

Here create a round plate and cut a hole in the plate. Then make a cone and cut it to fit over the hole. Then make the hinge and lock with a dowel rod. To finish the blast cone mount to the launcher at the rear.

Create the Rail

Here use a cardboard slab and make a realistic rail. Then mount the rail to the launcher right before the magnification scope.

Create Main Scope

IMG_0310.JPG

Here you will build the scope. Build the box with the slider mount for the rail, then make the round optics tube and mount with two pieces of cardboard. Add sides and front to cover openings, then make the battery housing by making a tube with corrugation on the end. Then slide onto the rail.

Add Handle

here you can build a handle to mount to the top of the launcher to make transportation easy.

Build Rockets

Here build as many tubes as you please that can fit inside your launcher. Then make the rockets that can slide inside of the tubes you made. And there you have it, perfect rocket rounds.

Outro

In conclusion, this build was very fun and a lot harder that i thought it would be. Though the finished product was amazing looking i am still planning on coating it in wheat paste to make it really strong. If there were some steps that were confusing or hard i can take more detailed pictures, i just didn't want one hundred photos. If you like what i am making i can make some more replicas of marine weapons. Thanks so much for viewing, and have a blessed day.
