Create a Flower Pot
I made this project because around my house, we do not have a lot of flower pots. I wanted to create a flower pot using old materials that I already had instead of throwing them away. I can use this flower pot to hold flowers that grow around my house and give them a better chance to grow and stay healthy.
This project shows how everyday items that might normally be considered trash can be turned into something useful.
Supplies
- Cardboard tube
- Hot glue
- CD
- Four-hole button
- Marker (optional)
TOOLS
- Hot glue gun
- Hot glue gun mat
- Your hands
PREPARE THE CARDBOARD TUBE
Place the cardboard tube upright on your work surface. Using the hot glue gun, carefully apply a continuous ring of hot glue around the bottom edge of the cardboard tube.
Try to make the glue line even and thick enough to securely attach the tube to the CD.
Safety: Be careful when using the hot glue gun because both the glue and the metal tip can become very hot.
ATTACH THE CD BASE
While the hot glue is still warm, carefully place the CD onto the bottom of the cardboard tube where you applied the glue.
Press the cardboard tube gently but firmly against the CD for several seconds. This allows the hot glue to bond the two pieces together.
Make sure the cardboard tube is positioned as close to the center of the CD as possible.
REINFORCE THE CONNECTION
Carefully check the connection between the cardboard tube and the CD.
Apply another layer of hot glue around the area where the cardboard tube meets the CD. This extra layer helps reinforce the connection and makes the flower pot more durable.
Allow the glue to cool slightly before moving on to the next step.
LET THE FLOWER POT SET
Turn the project over carefully so you can access the bottom of the CD.
Apply a small amount of hot glue around the center hole of the CD on the bottom side.
Before the glue completely cools, place the four-hole button onto the glue. Position it as close to the center as possible and gently press it into place.
The button adds another recycled element to the project and helps give the bottom of the flower pot a finished look.
LET THE FLOWER POT SET
Allow all of the hot glue to cool and harden completely before handling the project.
Once the glue has hardened, gently check the cardboard tube, CD, and button to make sure everything is securely attached.
If you notice any loose areas, add a small amount of hot glue to reinforce them.
DECORATE
Now it's time to make your flower pot your own!
Use a marker to draw designs, patterns, shapes, or other decorations on the cardboard tube. You can make it simple or get creative with your design.
Once you're finished decorating, your Trash to Treasure flower pot is ready for use!
