Cube Shaped Portable Fan
Let's build a cube shaped portable fan. The shape allows it to serve as a piece of furniture in a room.
Supplies
- 3D Printer
- Hot Glue Gun
- Motor, Fan, Wires, Switch, Battery Case Link
- Solder
- 2 AA batteries
Print Out the Body and Lid
- Download the CAD file, we have provided, open up the Prusa printing software,
- Remove the fringe on the back of the grates once the fan is printed.
Attach Battery Case With Hot Glue
Use hot glue to attach the battery case FACING UP to the base of the body.
Attach Motor With Hot Glue
Use hot glue to attach the motor to its designated hole. Ensure the spinning metal part of the motor which sticks out does not collide with the walls of the hole, as that would lead to functionality issues.
Attach Switch With Hot Glue
Add hot glue to the BOTTOM of the hole on the lid and ensure that the switch is secure and is not pushed out. Wait at least 1-2 minutes for the glue to dry properly.
Connect Wiring
Use solder to copy the wiring map we have provided to add the wiring aspect of the project. Ensure that the black wire connects directly to the copper part of the motor, the red wire to the switch, and then a double-sided red wire from the switch to the other side of the motor.
Attach the Fan Head
Place the fan head on the part of metal part of the motor that is sticking out. Make sure to do this step after the hot glue has properly dried and ensure that the motor is not dislodged when attaching the head.
Add Ancillary Tape to Strengthen Locking System
Stick a small piece of double-sided tape or single-sided tape to both sides of the fan where the lid slides into to make sure the lid is on stable. Replace tape when adhesive wears out.
Product Is Completed
The fan is now done! To remove the battery, take off the lid after overcoming the tape and add another piece of tape if the adhesive has worn off since. Provided are pictures of how the project should look like. A picture of the function of the handle is also provided: the handle can be used to tie a string around and carry easily. Or, you can attach the string to another platform and have the fan hanging from somewhere.
