DIY Captain America Shield From Old Dish Antenna
In this project, I transformed an old satellite dish into a realistic Captain America shield using simple tools and spray paint. Instead of throwing away the dish, I repurposed it into a unique cosplay and display prop. This project is inexpensive, beginner-friendly, and a great way to recycle old materials.
Supplies
- Old satellite dish
- PVC pipe (for measuring circles)
- Sandpaper (80–220 grit)
- Paint scraper or putty knife
- Masking tape
- Spray paint (Red, Blue, Metallic Silver)
- Marker
- Measuring tape or compass
- Cleaning cloth
- Safety gloves
- Dust mask
- Safety glasses
Find an Old Satellite Dish
For this project, I used an old, discarded satellite dish that was no longer in use. The curved shape makes it an ideal base for a Captain America shield. Try to find one at a scrap yard, recycling center, or use an old dish you already have. Make sure the dish is not badly bent or cracked before starting.
Draw the Shield Design & Prepare the Dish
Mark the center and draw the circular rings using a PVC pipe, compass, or any round object. (for cutting i used grinder)
Remove all unwanted parts, clean the dish, scrape off old paint or stickers, and sand the surface until smooth.
Mask the Pattern
Use masking tape to cover the areas that should remain unpainted, including the center star and circular rings.
Paint the Shield
Spray the metallic silver areas first. After drying, mask them and paint the blue center, then finish with the red rings using multiple light coats.
Reveal the Design
Carefully remove all masking tape after the paint has dried to reveal the clean star and circular pattern.
Final Touches
Final Result Final Result
After the paint had completely dried, I removed all the masking tape and made a few final touch-ups. The old satellite dish was successfully transformed into a realistic Captain America shield. It can be used for cosplay, room decoration, photography, or as a unique handmade display piece.
