Cut the Fabrics and the Fusible Interfacing
- Cut the fabrics and the fusible interfacing.
Press the Fabrics and Apply the Fusible Interfacing
- First, press all the fabrics.
- Then, lay the fusible interfacing on top of the wrong side of the outside fabric.
- Make sure the side with the glue is facing the fabric.
- Now, apply the fusible interfacing with the iron, as shown in the images.
Make the Fabric Tubes
- Fold the longest side of each piece of fabric in half and press it.
- Then, use a 30 degree angle to cut one of the corners of each folded piece of fabric, as shown in the images.
- Adjust the stitch length according to your preferences. Use a 90/14 sized needle.
- Sew the fabric tubes, using a 0.7cm | 9/32" seam allowance.
- Leave one of the smaller sides of each fabric tube opened, as shown in the images.
- Trim off the excess fabric and thread from each fabric tube.
- Turn the fabric tubes right side out, using your preferred turning tool.
- Press the fabric tubes to make it flat and neat.
Mark the Stitching Lines and the Rounded Corners
- Draw the stitching lines, with a heat erasable pen, taking into account a seam allowance of 0.7cm | 9/32".
- The stitching lines are the reference to mark the rounded corners.
- Use a 4cm | 1 37/64" circle template to trace the rounded corners onthe fusible interfacing.
- Then, mark the opening. Leave an opening of 6cm | 2 23/64", so you can turn the pouch right side out.
Place the Straps, the Inside and the Outside Fabric Pieces Together
- Placing the right side of the inside fabric facing up, mark the middle on the two longest sides, with a heat erasable pen.
- Now, place your fabric tubes one on each side of the inside fabric, as shown in the images.
- Make sure they are in the right position.
- Next, place the right sides of the outside and the inside fabrics of the medication pouch facing each other, as shown in the images, and clip them together.
Sew the Straps, the Inside and the Outside Fabric Pieces Together
- Adjust the stitch length according to your preferences.
- Use a 90/14 sized needle.
- Sew the straps and fabrics together, following the stitching line.
- Clip the edges and trim off the excess thread and fabric.
Turn the Medication Pouch Right Side Out
- Turn the medication pouch right side out and press it.
Fold the Fabric to Form the Medication Pouch
- Now, fold the entire piece of fabric in half, wrong sides together, to shape the medication pouch and create the pocket.
- Clip both sides together, as shown in the images, making sure they align neatly.
- Then, mark where the stitching will stop. In this case, they will stop 1.5cm | 19/32" from the top edge on each side of the pouch.
Edge Stitch to Finish the Medication Pouch
- Edge stitch both sides of the pouch, 0.3cm | 1/8" away from the edge, as shown in the images.
- This way you will create a pocket and the medication pouch will be finished and ready to use.
- The finished size of the medication pouch is 10.5cm | 4 9/64" x 7.2cm | 2 / 53/64".
Hints and Tips
- If you prefer, you can sew square corners instead of round corners to prevent crooked seams.
- To make it easier, you can make your medication pouch without straps.
- Use a slightly longer stitch length to edge stitch, this way you can get a better finish.
