Laptop stand to raise the screen to a more comfortable height. Can be used with a separate keyboard and mouse. The laptop stand is simple to make from plywood and rope. It is adjustable in height by adjusting the knot at the back. After use simply take the wooden parts apart to get a flat package you can take with you.

Supplies

6 mm plywood

5 mm diameter nylon rope

For sizes: see the next step.

Equipment: jigsaw and drill

Also easy to make with a laser cutter or 3D printer.

Saw, Drill and Cut

A blueprint with sizes is attached as PDF. Saw/drill the wood according to the blueprint. For the larger hole: you first drill a hole, then you insert the jigsaw into the hole to saw the edges of the lager hole.

Cut the rope. I briefly held the ends of the rope in a flame to prevent fraying.

Assemble

Insert the rope in the holes of the wooden parts. Put three knots in the rope on both sides, see picture. Assemble the wooden parts and you are done.

Adjusting height: take the rope at the back and put a knot in it. A tighter knot will result in a more upright stand.

Overheating: I never had issues with my laptop, or my wife's laptop, using this stand. But you can drill two additional holes in the top corners of the front panel. Put a short length of rope in it and knot it in place. The knot will act as spacer allowing more air to enter the ventilator at the back of the laptop.

Enjoy!
