Terrain Waterfalls With Stone and Cement

Hi all,

I'm back with exclusive instructable this time, so this is something as usual made from scratch using total creativity. When this contest, we were determined to make something unique as well that can be made with beginner's level skill, Let's Jump into instructions and see how to make it.

1) Plastic tray - 1 no

2) Cement - 2 kg

3) M-Sand - 2 kg

4) Hot Glue Gun

5) Vaseline

6) Natural stone (I chose one accordingly to give water falls effect when the water flows)

7) Artificial Green moss

8) Grey unpolished pebbles

9) Plastic wrapper

10) Artificial miniature trees

11) Mini fountain pump - 1 no, with tube, battery, switch

12) Glue

13) Dark green Acrylic paint

14) Animal miniatures for decoration

So here we are gonna use this plastic tray as mould for our waterfalls, so for easy removal of our piece, apply a layer of vase line completely including side walls, cover it up with a plastic sheet, here we used cling wrapper. Neatly covered all corners.

Initially add 500g of cement, 500g of M-sand (completely dried), basically cement & sand should be in 1:1 ratio thorough out this mixing. Add very little amount of water from time to time, as we don't need it pouring consistency. we need a thick consistency, like holding consistency for this. Above the cling wrapped plastic tray, i used a cardboard sheet to absorb the excess water from this mixture. Slowly add the mixture by gently press it, fill the tray with this mixture for approx 3 mm thickness.

We made a small grid like using flexible wire for adding extra strength to this mixture, so first layer of cement mixture and then metal grid. We have kept two pebbles to elevate the waterfall stone and to act as back support. Cover it with cement mixture.

Apply cement mixture to the bottom of stone and place it where the pebble stones have been suited to support its elevation.

Cover the metal grid with cement mixture, small to build the pond area giving side thickness, meanwhile create a inlet water for the fountain pump, apply vaseline to plastic tube insert it in the left corner, till it reaches plastic tray side wall.

Once the tube inlet is fixed, start building the walls around, we tried and created rectangle pool shape. So base of the pool structure is 20 mm, which includes the cardboard base and metal support grid. Cardboard will be removed later after complete drying. We made Fake rocks (cement rocks) with extra cement available. Let this preparation dry for 24 hours

First pic was taken 8 hours after making, second pic taken after 20 hrs and with little bit of air drying outside the house in shade without direct sunlight. (Just kept trees for seeing looks they yet to be fixed but only after putting grass green base) After one complete day, pull it out the structure using plastic wrapper. since we applied vaseline it should come out ease. Once it comes out of the tray, remove the plastic wrapper from the all sides.

Ahh finally, so its out of the tray its completely and its sturdy. Now remove the inserted tube too as shown in image 2&3. As cardboard is all soaked up now, remove it.

we planned to keep the motor at backside bottom of hill, as shown in supplies image pic fountain pump set up has inlet pipe and outlet pipe. Inlet pipe is what connected to pond, outlet pipe will be fixed at top and flows down into pond.

Since its a natural stone its give out a mountain/hill lookalike, also we choose stone carefully considering flow of water. Add glue to surface and add artificial green moss, i have given both dark green and light green moss. Grass texture moss everything here and there as per your thought process.

Lets start fixing the trees, i used hot glue gun here to fix the trees, we bought a cute little panda miniatures placed in falls surfaces, technically panda don't live there, but we couldn't resist there cuteness and placed it there.

After paint drying, add glue on the surface and put artificial grass, now its looks so much greener. Add hot glue or glue to pebble, paste green grass and we placed tortoise on it. Actually its a radium one which glows in the dark.

Use hot glue gun to the outlet pipe, this is step before your last step, your step is to covering the pipe with greens so it doesn't look odd on top, Actually four trees only were planned, but fifth tree was kept to cover the pipe visibility.

Switch on the supply and let it flow, its very soothing and calm to look at. You can keep it in your living room as home decor as well. You can hear the water flowing sounds, this a treat for both your eyes and ears. I have done with and without stones, which do you like the most, share it in comment section.
