Diva Diamond Earrings
These clay, ruby red earrings were inspired by my mom and a fun day of shopping we had a few weeks ago. My mom's family nickname is " The Diva" because of her confidence and attitude. While we were at the mall two weeks ago, we went to Macy's and window shopped in the jewelry section. My mom spotted some beautiful ruby earrings on gold posts and wanted me to buy them for Mother's Day. Seeing as those were way out of my budget, I decided to make some at home using some leftover clay from a previous project, and a creative way of achieving the iconic red I saw in Macy's.
Supplies
Quick Dry Clay ( partially dried)
Scissors
Crayola Marker ( or a 1/4 in. diameter circle you can use to cut the clay)
Earring Posts
Jewelry Rings
Jewelry Pliers (not pictured)
Gel Nail Polish
UV LED nail lamp
Mold the Clay
Partially dry quick-dry clay until you can form a solid shape with it. Use scissors to cut the clay into an even square. Repeat this with another piece of clay
Cut the Clay
Take the leftover clay from step one, and use the lid of the crayola marker to cut circles out from the reaining clay. The circle should be 1/4 in in diameter
Add Gel Polish Color
Use a piece of clear plastic to protect your workspace. Paint the clay in your desired gel nail polish color. Once the first coat is applied, place the painted clay pieces under the UV LED nail lamp for at least 60 seconds. Repeat until the entire piece of clay is colored and dry.
Place Jewlery Hardware Into Clay
While the clay is still semi-dry, put the earring post into the clay until it goes throught the clay without poking out on the other side. Use the jewelry pliers to open the jewelry rings and do the same to the opposite corner of the clay
Dry Clay
Allow Clay to air dry for at least seven hours ( drying overnight is preferred)
Enjoy!
