Dual Deck Box Made From the MTG Pizza Bundle (Magic the Gathering)
I wanted something to hold my Utlimate Guard deck boxes. I used small, flat (.30 in) round magnets to hold the box closed. I also did not give measurements as everyone might use a different size deck box or just make it to hold loose cards. Measure twice and cut once and make sure the orientation is correct before cutting anything. I messed up one of my boxes beause I did not check. This is my first time writing directions for anything so I hope you all can follow it well enough.
Supplies
I used a metal ruler, X-actor knife, pencil/pen, and E6000. I also used small, flat (.30 in) round magnets to keep the box closed. I used clamps to help hold the flaps in place while glue dried, but if you don't have clamps you can use clothespins or just hold for a really long time if you have to.
First Bend (base)
I opened the pizza box and placed my deck boxes pushed towards the front of the box. I marked behind the deck boxes but left a little room so it can be creased. I unfolded the pizza box and drew a line all the way across. Using the metal ruler as a guide and a mechanical pencil to score the line to make it easier to bend.
First Cut (base)
Now it is time to cut the pizza box to make the base for the dual deck box. I cut along the fold towards the back of the unfolded pizza box. Then cut off and discarded the flaps. I then used the metal ruler to help crease the pizza box along the scored lines made previously. Once complete, fold the box up and check that the deck boxes fit nicely. You can leave the back flaps to overlap or you can cut them to fit agasint each other.
Cutting the Top Off
As you can see in the pictures, the box is too high and will not close correctly. So I cut the top of the pizza box off so i still have a fold to attach to the back of the base at a later step. After it's cut, I put the deck boxes back in to see where I should cut off the excess to make the deck box fit correctly. This should complete the creasing and cutting of the base.
Getting the Top Ready
I measured the depth of the box so I could mark the top with a crease line. I also cut towards the front to create the flaps. I cut the flaps so that they would meet nicely in the middle.
Front Cover
Now it is time to crease and bend the front cover to complete the box. I held it together and closed the box to see how much extended past the box. I marked it so I can crease and fold the cover.
Glue It All Together
Once everything is cut and you are happy with the way it turned out, it is time to glue. This is the most time consuming part. Trying to hold everything together while clamping it all down. Follow the directions on your glue for best results. I did add magnets to the cover flap and front of the base to hold the box together. Now is the time to do that. I sandwhiched the magnets on the front cover and did the same for the base front. The magnets hold ok the way I did them. I was worried that the magnets would pull out, but so far they hold well enough.
Optional Insert Background Art
I added the insert from the pizza box to the back of the dual deck box. It makes it look nicer I think. I used double sided tape for this step (I was worried glue would come through and look bad).
Enjoy Your New Dual Deck Box
This is what I did but you can change it up. Make it your own and enjoy the project. Cowabunga Dudes.
