Easy as Pi! Italian Breadsticks

Yes, these delicious breadsticks are “easy as pi” to make, thanks to frozen bread dough. In just a few minutes, small portions of dough are shaped, seasoned, and ready to rise. Baked to golden perfection, they are paired with marinara sauce for dipping for a delicious snack. These savory breadsticks may also be served to complement any Italian dinner. Enjoy!

Ingredients and Supplies:

Ingredients:

1 (1 lb.) loaf frozen bread dough, thawed

2 tablespoons olive oil

1 teaspoon garlic salt

2 teaspoons Italian seasoning

1 24 oz. jar marinara sauce

Supplies:

two baking sheets

parchment paper

kitchen shears

Shaping Dough:

Use kitchen shears to cut dough into 8 equal portions. Line two baking sheets with parchment paper. Use lightly oiled hands to roll and stretch each portion to a 10-inch rope, placing four ropes on each baking sheet. Cut each rope into one 4-inch piece and two 3-inch pieces. For each breadstick, use the picture of pi symbol to use hands to shape and roll the 4-inch piece into the top of the symbol and the two 3-inch pieces for the “legs” of the symbol. Pinch “legs” to top. Place four breadsticks on each baking sheet.

Seasoning Breadsticks:

Brush tops of breadsticks lightly with olive oil then sprinkle lightly with garlic salt. Sprinkle with Italian seasoning as desired. Cover loosely and let rise in a warm place for 40-45 minutes or until doubled in size. Heat oven to 375 degrees. Bake for 18-20 minutes or until golden brown.

To Serve:

To serve, place a warm breadstick on each serving plate and add a small ramekin of marinara sauce to each plate for dipping. Serves 8. Enjoy!
