Easy Homemade Dill Pickles
Growing up, my grandparents had a garden with all kinds of fruits and vegetables. My grandma used to make the best homemade pickles with the cucumbers she grew, so this recipe is inspired by her! Homemade pickles are super easy to make and taste much better than the store-bought ones. Here is how you do it...
Supplies
What you need:
- 1-quart jar with a sealed lid
- 1 lb bag of mini cucumbers
- 2-4 cloves of garlic
- 5 sprigs of fresh dill
- 1 tbsp of peppercorn medley
- 1 tsp of red pepper flakes
- 3 tsp of sugar
- 3 tsp of kosher salt
- 1 cup of distilled white vinegar
- 1 cup of water
Slice Cucumbers
Cut each cucumber into 4 spears and add them to the jar. (You can cut them into rounds if you prefer)
Add the Ingredients Into the Jar
Add in:
- 2-4 cloves of garlic (depending on your own preference)
- 1tbsp of peppercorn medley
- 5 sprigs of fresh dill
- one tsp of red pepper flakes
The Brine
In a medium saucepan, add 1 cup of water, 1 cup of vinegar, 3 tsp of sugar, and 3 tsp of kosher salt. Stir evenly until the sugar and salt have dissolved. Let this simmer, and take it off the heat as soon as it reaches its boiling point. Then, gently pour the brine into the jar to the top and close off the lid.
The Pickling Process
Leave the jar in the refrigerator for at least 24 hours so that the cucumbers will pickle properly
