Easy Make Wood Mountain Bike Jump
This is a wood mountain bike jump, I made this because I could teach my friends and family how to use it. I have been thinking about making a fun jump to hit with my friends and family. My goal for this jump was to make it safe so that anyone can hit it, I tried to make it easy to use, move and make. This jump will not cost that much because all you need is some tools and wood. Anyone can make this jump and learn how to hit it. I built this to just put on your driveway or even just in a trail. you could even build a mini trail in your backyard using this jump in it too. For this jump you will need to know how to use power tools and if you are under 14 you might want a parent watching and helping you use the tools.
Supplies
#1. 5 two by fours
#2. 2 two by twos
#3. 2 one by threes
#4. 1 sheet of plywood
#5. inch and a half screws
#6. 2 and a half inch screws
#7. 3 inch screws
#8. 1 jig saw
#9. 1 circular saw
#10. tape measure that has inches on it.
Cutting the Sides and Getting the Curve
Get your sheet of plywood and cut it into 4 even triangle pieces. You want it to be 30 inches tall with a 43 inch base. Screw all 4 pieces together so they are all even when cutting. For the curve you want a radius of 63.75 inches and then cut that out. To get the radius you will want to hold a measuring tape with a screw or a big piece of wood and make sure it is at 63.75 inches and move the measuring tape along the 4 triangle pieces then draw a line along the tape
Making the Sides
After you cut out the radius of the sides you want to unscrew the 4 cut side pieces you will have then glue them with any liquid type of glue you have and screw with the 2 and a half inch screws together 2 pieces 2 times. One for each side of the jump.
Making the Frame
Cut up 6 one by threes wood pieces all 30 inches, cut 2 two by twos 27 inches and another 2 two by twos 35.5 inches. screw one 35.5 inch two by two to one of the bases of the ramp base and screw the other 35.5 inch two by two on the other piece of plywood to the base. Screw one 27 inch two by two to the vertical part on one side of the pieces and then screw the other 27 inch two by two to the other side piece on the vertical part, after that screw 3 of the 30 inch 1 by 3s you cut up to the base part of both of the sides together and the other 3 1 by 3s to the vertical part of the sides together.
Making the Launch Surface
Cut up 13 32 inch two by fours and screw them all onto the top of the frame on the curved part. At the beginning of the curve you will want to use plywood to make the surface smooth to go onto because if you use a piece of the two by fours it will be like riding straight into a curb or a root.
Reflection
Your bike jump should now be finished, it is a little heavy but still movable you can put this in a field, on your driveway, and even in a trail if you want. You can paint the bike ramp to make it look better and slow down the rotting process a lot. This jump was a success and easy to make, the curve is pretty decent but it will send you pretty high. If I would build this ramp again I would try to use a bigger radius for a smaller curve also I would try to make a landing for this jump. Have fun with this build, happy trails.
