Hi, I’m Fizah, a 14-year-old Grade 9 student in Canada, turning 15 years old this April 16th. I am also the founder of Alerdivy Jewelry, a small business built from a dream I’ve nurtured for 10 years. Alerdivy creates jewelry that enhances natural beauty while staying affordable.

I wanted to create something beautiful while also reducing waste, so I made these elegant flower earrings using plastic from a bottle. Instead of throwing plastic away, I transformed it into layered petals, painted them with nail polish, and added beads and chain to give the earrings a delicate and unique look. This project shows how simple materials can be turned into stylish,eco-friendly jewelry that is both creative and sustainable.

Cut the Plastic

Start by cleaning and drying your plastic bottle. Carefully cut the bottle into flat sections so it's easier to work with.

Trace and Cut Petals

Draw petal shapes in different sizes onto the plastic, then cut them out. Make larger petals for the base and smaller ones for the inner layers of the flower. Also trace and cut out some leaves.

Paint the Petals

Use your desired nail polish to paint the flower petals and leaves. For example, you can use red for the outer petals and lighter colours like white for inner petals, and for leaves use green colour. Let the petals dry completely before moving on to the next step.

Assemble the Flower

Layer the petals from largest to smallest to form a flower shape. Using your hot glue secures all the flower petals together.

Attach the Earring Hook

Use pliers to open a jump ring by twisting it sideways. Attach the jump ring to the top hole, then add the earring hook. Close the jump ring securely using pliers to ensure it is tight and in place.

Make Small Holes

IMG_1352.jpg

Carefully make two small holes using the craft knife or a needle, make one at the top centre for the earring hooks and the other at the bottom centre.

Add Beaded Chain

Use head pins or thin metal wire to add beads. Thread the beads onto the pin, then use pliers to create a small loop at the end to secure them. Attach these beaded pieces to small sections of chain if desired. Finally, use a jump ring to connect the beaded chain to the bottom hole of the flower. Ensure everything is securely fastened.

Add Chains and Beads

Cut two small pieces of chain and attach them evenly to the bottom of the flower using a hot glue gun. Then, use head pins to thread beads and create small loops at the ends using pliers. Attach the beaded pieces to the chains, leaving one chain plain or adding a leaf charm for variation. Ensure all pieces are securely attached.

Glue Down the Small Embellishments

Finally, apply glue to the flower petals and carefully attach the small embellishments onto them.
