shape it, score it, love it! Flower dough is sourdough bread that I scored to have a flower-like pattern. This recipe is simple, fun, and a perfect way to practice your skills while making something you can proudly display! I wanted to make bread be beautiful and tastier than ever! I even made my own whipped honey-butter spread to take it to the next level.

Steps for Sourdough Starter

Steps for sourdough bread starter:

Starting with a glass jar for your sourdough starter is the easiest in my opinion! To start your sourdough starter put 1 cup of water and 1 cup of flour in your jar. Make sure to mix it well with a spoon. Do the same everyday, for however long you choose.

If you're making sourdough bread on short notice you can do this twice a day to speed up the process. Just make sure not do it more than twice a day.

Be careful not to bake your starter too soon. Keep the starter "active" and fed for at least 14 days before you turn it into bread. If you have too much sourdough starter for your jar you can dump some out in the compost, and add 1/3 a cup water and one cup of flour. To seal the jar DO NOT put an air tight seal on it or it could explode from the acids and pressure. What I like to do is take an elastic and tie parchment paper over the lid loosely.

Step One for Sourdough Bread

Feed your starter 4-7 hours before turning it into bread.

Mix together 3/4 a cup of starter, 2 1/2 cups of warm water, 6 cups of flour, and 1 tablespoon of salt into a big mixing bowl. let it rest by a warm area or room temp for half an hour.

once it is done resting stretch and fold the dough once every 30 minutes for 2 hours. Finally let the dough sit for 30 minutes.

Next sprinkle flour on the counter. Place the dough, and sprinkle more flour on top. Then i split the dough into three equal pieces. Fold each piece and shape them. put them each into your desired bread pan with parchment paper. Now is when i scored them but this part is optional. Bake at 475 for 15 minutes and then at 450 for 20 minutes.

Reflection

Making this bread was a fun and rewarding experience that I love to now share with all of you! I learned that simple ingredients can turn into something delicious without any unhealthy ingredients in them. When I make this again I’ll be sure to try other designs, and do different techniques to perfect this recipe! Thanks for joining along!
