Gioia Bangle DIY Wearable Electronics: How I Built a Light‑Up Bracelet (Step‑by‑Step Tutorial)

Gioia Bangle is a DIY LED light bracelet.

This project is perfect for beginners and makers because I used Through-Hole Technology components which are very easy to solder!

This project costs very little to make, because the components are very cheap.

A LED strip costs about 5 euros per meter!

Furthermore, this project is totally hardware because I didn't use a microcontroller!

Supplies

Materials:

  1. N.1 Gioia Bangle PCB. You can download gerber files or purchase PCB from this link
  2. N.1 CR1620 battery holder. (suggested link )
  3. N.1 battery cell (CR1620 or LIR1620).
  4. N.1 slide switch (suggested link )
  5. N.2 Jst 2.0 PH 3 pins vertical male connector (example link )
  6. N.2 Jst 2.0 PH 3 pins female connector
  7. n.6 jst 2.0 female pins (example link )
  8. N.3 tht resistors 1/4 watt
  9. N.3 3v (or 5V) led strips (suggested link )

Tools:

  1. Solder
  2. Jst pin crimping tool (example link )
  3. heat shrink tubing (hot air)

Install Battery Holder

The value of the three resistors depends on the color of the LED strip used.

Recommended values:

  1. Ice bLue: R100
  2. Green: R470
  3. Blue: R270
  4. Red: R330
  5. White (6500k): R100

Preparation of LED Strips

strip 2.png
strip 3.png

Perform the following steps:

  1. Cut three LED strips of the desired color and length
  2. Cut each strip near the contacts
  3. Isolate the positive contact (marked 5v) on one end of the strip and the negative contact on the opposite end.
  4. Free the copper contact from the adhesive
  5. Tin the contacts at the ends of the strip

Prepare the Flying Female JST Connectors

Perform the following steps:

  1. Cut 6 wires (suggested section 0.25 mm) length 2 cm
  2. Crimp the JST female connector to the end of each wire
  3. insert the wires into the two loose female connectors
  4. tin the other end of the wires

Solder the LED Strips to the Wires
