Golf Ball Retriever
This golf ball retriever is designed to aid in practicing chipping. The retriever will catch and then return the balls over a distance of 10 yards in addition to how far they may roll after exiting the pipe. The design is flexible in that you can create it to whatever distance or size funnel you can find. My design will require this 10 yard mark and a 26'' funnel found online.
Supplies
- PVC Pipe of desired length (4'' diameter)
- Large Funnel (Link to example)
- Long sweep 90 degree elbow (link)
- One square of 3/4'' plywood
- One 2x4 board 8ft in length
- 3 and 1.5 in wood screws
- PVC Primer
- Solvent Cement
Start Building Frame
Take the ply wood and cut out a 4 1/8 '' hole for the funnel to sit in. To create the legs you will cut the 2x4 into four 18'' legs and the remaining 2x4 should be cut into 4'' blocks.
Attaching Legs
Screw your 4'' blocks to the plywood frame. Then get your four 18'' legs and screw those into the 4'' blocks to secure them to the frame. At this point your frame is done and now we just need the PVC pipe to return the balls.
PVC Pipe Return
You are going to glue the elbow first to the funnel. This will require the PVC primer and solvent cement. Next, You will need to apply heat to the long PVC pipe to get it to the right angle. Get a hair dryer and rotate constantly to heat evenly then slowly bend the pipe to achieve around a 2.5 degree bend. Once you have reached the desired bend you will glue that pipe to the elbow then you are all done!
