How to Make Wood Filler With Glue and Sawdust - DIY wood filler

I had a window at home that was damaged by water, and the damage was getting worse over time. So, I decided to repair it myself.

Instead of buying ready-made wood filler, I thought of making a simple homemade wood filler using materials available at home. The method is very easy, practical, and effective for small wood repair jobs.

Below, I will explain the complete process step by step.

Supplies

To make this homemade wood filler with sawdust, I used a few simple materials:

  1. Fine sawdust
  2. Wood glue
  3. A small plate or mixing container
  4. A mixing stick or small tool
  5. Sandpaper
  6. A putty knife or any flat tool for applying the filler

Add Sawdust to a Plate

After arranging the sawdust, I placed it on a small plate. You can also use any small container for mixing.

Add Wood Glue

Next, I added wood glue to the sawdust. The quantity is almost equal. For example, if you add one part sawdust, add almost the same amount of glue.

Mix Well

After adding the glue, I mixed everything properly until it turned into a thick paste. The mixture should not be too dry or too watery. It should look like a smooth filler paste that can easily be applied to damaged wood.

Apply the Wood Filler

Then, I applied this homemade wood filler to the damaged area of the wooden window. I pressed the paste properly into the damaged part so it could fill the gap well.

Let It Dry

After applying the filler, I left it for a few hours so it could dry completely. Drying time may depend on the thickness of the filler and the type of glue used.

Sand the Surface

Once the filler was dry, I rubbed the repaired area with sandpaper. This helped smooth the surface and blend the filled area with the surrounding wood.
