How Tempreture and Light, and Air Affect the Rotting of Food
.
The Problem
In our society, we have many farmers and families who love to grow and eat natural foods as it has vitamins, proteins, carbohydrates, etc... but many of them struggle in storing it the right way as they don't know the variables that affect the rotting of it, so for that I will do an experiment and research to see what variables mostly affects the rotting of food.
Observation
We will be using 3 apples cut in halves, each half will be preserved in a different way, and we will conclude by using our sense of sight, smell, and taste
The Scientific Question
How does light, temperature, and air affect the rotting of foods?
Hypothesis
If we put the halves in different temperatures, conditions, and light exposure, there will be a difference in the level of decomposition.
Variables
Independent: Temperature
Dependant: The condition of the apple
Controlled: Apple, container, Temperature, time
Independent: Light
Dependant: The condition of the apple
Controlled: Apple, container, Amount of light, time
Independent: Air
Dependant: The condition of the apple
Controlled: Apple, container, air-exposed, time
Experiment Design
Tools: Apple, container, refrigerator, cabinet, knife
Place: House
Steps:
1- Cut 3 apples into halves. Every two halves tested separately by changing one variable.
2- The first two halves: (A1) stored in a container in the dark, (A2) stored in a container exposed to light
The second two halves: (A3) No container in the dark, (A4) No container under the light
The third two halves: (A5) stored in a container in the refrigerator, (A6) stored in the refrigerator without a container
3- Wait for 2 days
4- Conclude the results based on the way it looks, the smell, and the taste every 12 hours until the end of the second day.
Results
ِAs for the results, (A1) was the most affected from the experiment, then (A3), then(A2), Then (A4), then (A5) As it was effected a lot and unbeatable, and the final apple(A6) hasn't changed and is the least affected apple in the experiment
Conclusion
Based on the experiments we made, we can tell that the variable that affects food the most is Air, then temperature, so I recommend families and farmers to store their food in wrapped boxes and place it in a cold place like the refrigerator
