How We Made a Custom Silicone Mold With Pigment and Two Silicone Pours
This project records how we made a custom silicone mold in the BKSILICONE workshop. The process follows six stages: mold assembly, adding silicone pigment paste, thorough mixing, a small first pour, a second pour, and demolding.
The photos are real frames from the same workshop video. We are sharing the making process, not an in-stock product. The pigment percentage shown belongs to this particular project; use the instructions for your own silicone and pigment system.
Supplies
Materials and tools shown in this project:
• The project master pieces and mold housing
• Silicone rubber and compatible silicone pigment paste
• Mixing containers and a mixing tool
• A stable work surface
For your own batch, follow the material supplier’s technical and safety instructions, use suitable protective equipment, and measure additions accurately by weight. No mixing ratio or curing time from another project is used here.
Mold Assembly
Begin with the project master pieces and mold housing. The video shows the mold being assembled before any silicone is poured.
Arrange the components in their intended positions and check the setup before preparing the silicone. The accompanying frame records the assembly used for this custom project; dimensions and customer details are intentionally omitted.
Add Silicone Pigment Paste — 0.4–0.6% by Weight
The next instruction in the video is to add silicone pigment paste at 0.4–0.6% by weight. This is the project-specific addition shown in the recording, not a universal dosage for every silicone formulation.
Use a pigment compatible with the silicone system, measure the addition accurately, and follow the supplier’s guidance. The image shows the silicone-preparation stage from the same recording.
Mix Thoroughly
Mix the silicone and pigment thoroughly before pouring, following the mixing instructions for the silicone system being used. Work through the material in the mixing container so the pigment is distributed throughout the batch.
The preparation sequence and its mixing instruction are visible in the project video. This tutorial does not substitute a mixing ratio from a different material or project.
First Small-Batch Silicone Pour
Start the casting sequence with the first small batch of silicone, as shown in the video. Pour into the assembled mold setup and work steadily through the areas being filled.
The first pour is recorded as its own stage. No precise waiting interval between pours is specified here; that depends on the actual material and process.
Second Silicone Pour
Continue with the second silicone pour shown in the recording. The orange silicone is poured into the same assembled setup to complete this stage of the mold-making process.
Keep the sequence clear: assembly and preparation come first, followed by the small initial pour and then this second pour. Use the handling and curing requirements of your own silicone system.
Silicone Mold Demolding
Once the silicone has cured as required for the material used, release the mold from the setup and separate it carefully from the master pieces. Support the silicone while releasing it rather than pulling sharply at one area.
The final frames show the demolding stage of this custom project. No numerical curing time is claimed, because it was not provided for this video.
This is a process record, not a ready-stock product listing. For the original process notes, see the BKSILICONE workshop article.
