How to Change a Battery

IMG_20260327_161000.jpg

This is a tutorial about how to change the battery of something like a flashlight or a small toy. I made this because I want people to be able to learn how to change a battery, like if you are a kid getting into circuits or an adult helping your kid with their toy. I hope you find this tutorial helpful!

Supplies

  1. Screwdriver (maybe)
  2. Batteries of the correct type

Do I Need a Screwdriver?

To determine whether or not you will need a screwdriver for this, locate the battery box (usually found on the bottom of toys and other things) and check if there are screws holding it in place. If there are, make sure you get the right size and type of screwdriver. You can buy them at your local tool store.

Open the Box

Unscrew the screws if your battery box has them. If it doesn't, sometimes they will have a small latch. If it has a latch, squeeze in on it until the cover gets loose, then take off the cover.

Take Out the Batteries

To take out the batteries, find where the box has springs. Push on the opposite side of the battery (usually positive), then take it out. Repeat this until all the batteries are out. If your batteries have a case like the one in the picture, then take out the case too.

What Type of Batteries Are These?

To find out the type of battery, look on the side of one of them. It will usually say what type they are. In my case, they are AA batteries.

Throw Away the Batteries

When throwing away the old batteries, you might want to take an extra safety precaution by placing them in different sides or corners of the trash can. This is to ensure that two ends of some batteries don't touch and create a spark.

Get New Batteries

Go to where you store your batteries, and find (a) new batter(y/ies) to put in your device. Once you get them, go back over to your device.

Inserting the New Batteries

When inserting the batteries, make sure you put them in the right direction. Otherwise, they won't work. Usually, the battery box will have markings on the inside that tell you the correct direction of the batteries. It will say "+" and "-". Negative (-) usually goes on the spring, while positive (+) does not. Put them in the correct direction and push the spring down to put the batteries in.

Closing the Battery Box

If you have a case like the picture in Step 3, then put that in the box first. Then, if your battery box has screws, screw those in and your box is closed. If it has a latch, squeeze it again and it should snap back into place. Make sure that when putting the cover back on the box, you put it in tabs first. This is to ensure you close it the correct way without breaking it.

Ta-da! You have finished replacing your device's batteries. I hope you found this tutorial helpful, and have a good day!
