How to Create a 3D World Map Model in Fusion 360
This Instructable is a step-by-step guide on how to create a 3D world map model using Fusion 360. In this project, we will:
- Download a 3D world map model
- Convert it into a usable format
- Import it into Fusion 360
- View and work with the 3D model
This is useful for:
- Beginners learning Fusion 360
- 3D printing projects
- Map-based design ideas
How I Got This Idea
The idea came from exploring map-based design projects, especially for creative and engineering purposes like:
- Wall art
- 3D printing
- CAD practice
Maps are visually appealing and technically interesting, making them perfect for combining design + engineering skills.
Supplies
Gather Your Materials
Before starting, make sure you have:
- A computer/laptop
- Internet connection
- Fusion 360 installed
- Access to 3D Warehouse
- SKP to STL converter website
Go to 3D Warehouse
Visit the 3D Warehouse website and search for a world map model.
Download the World Map Model
Select a suitable model and download it.
The file will be downloaded in .SKP format
Convert SKP File to STL
Fusion 360 works better with STL files, so we need to convert it.
Go to an online SKP to STL converter.
Upload the SKP File
Upload your downloaded SKP file into the converter.
Download the STL File
After conversion, download the STL file.
Open Fusion 360
Launch Fusion 360 and go to:
File → Open
Import the STL File
Click “Open from my computer” and select the STL file.
View Your 3D World Map
Now you will see the 3D world map model inside Fusion 360.
