As technology evolves, some hardware and games become even more rare and hard to find. Often, we wish there were a way to play all the games we loved as kids. So I'll teach you how to play the games from our childhood on any desktop or laptop you have lying around.

Supplies

A browser is needed, and these 4 link are required to proceed forward. 7-Zip, RPCS3, PlayStation (firmware), and Vimm's Lair.

Download 7zip

First, download 7-Zip (an unzipping software). Then go to RPCS3. This program tricks your machine to create a virtual space that makes it think it's a PS3.

Next, go to the PS3 website for the BIOS folders for RPCS3. Scroll down and click " Reinstall using a computer, and scroll down and click the download link (sometimes this doesn’t work, so right-click and press " Save Link As ")

Create a folder for emulations and add the RPC3 to it. After that, right-click it and press More Options, then 7-Zip, and after that, “extract here”. Open the RPCS3 program and then go to the top right, where it says file and click on install firmware, then click the PS3 firmware previously downloaded.

Finding a Game

The next part is to find the perfect game for you, and if it’s compatible, then go back to RPCS3. Scroll down and click the letter of the game you have in mind, and find out if it’s playable. (For me, it’s Silent Hill) After finding out if the game is compatible, go to Vimm's Lair and search for the game’s ROM. In the circle area, it shows some important info like the size of the file and the game version, but for right now, just press download

Finally, after the game’s ROM is downloaded, drag it into the emulation folder and extract it there. After that, go back to the RPCS app and press file, then add game, and click the ROM file. Then click search and find the specific game. After the game is added, click the icon of the game, and you’re ready to play your PS3 games! Double-click the window so you can play in full screen, and then press “esc” when ready to leave. Enjoy!
