How to Fix a Broken Clothes Hanger | Easy DIY Repair Hack
Plastic clothes hangers can easily break during everyday use, and many people simply throw them away when this happens. Instead of discarding a broken hanger, you can repair it with a simple DIY method and reuse it.
In this project, I’ll show you how to fix a broken clothes hanger using a small piece of sturdy wire or thin metal rod, super glue, and baking soda. The repair is quick, inexpensive, and can make the hanger strong enough to use again.

Supplies
- Broken plastic clothes hanger
- Strong, thin wire or a small metal rod
- Cutting tool for cutting the wire or rod
- Super glue
- Baking soda
Prepare the Broken Hanger
Start with the broken plastic clothes hanger. In this project, the hanger was broken in the middle, where the two sections needed to be joined back together.
Prepare a Small Piece of Wire or Rod
Instead of relying on super glue alone, use a strong, thin wire or small metal rod to reinforce the broken section. Cut the wire or rod into a short piece that can fit inside both broken parts of the hanger.
Insert the Reinforcing Rod
Take the two broken sections of the hanger and carefully insert one end of the small rod halfway into one side of the broken hanger. Insert the other half into the opposite side.
This creates an internal reinforcement that helps hold both pieces together instead of relying only on adhesive.
Join the Hanger
Push the two broken sections together so that the reinforcing rod sits inside both pieces. Make sure the two parts are properly aligned and firmly joined.
The rod should overlap both broken sections evenly, helping provide additional strength to the repaired joint.
Apply Super Glue
Once the two parts are firmly connected, apply super glue around the repaired area on both sides. Make sure the adhesive covers the joint properly.
Add Baking Soda
While the super glue is still fresh, add baking soda over the glued area. The combination of super glue and baking soda creates a hard, reinforced layer around the joint, giving the repair additional strength.
Allow the Repair to Set
Let the repaired area become firm before putting the hanger back into regular use. Once the glue and baking soda have hardened, the hanger should be ready to reuse.
Reuse the Repaired Hanger
The repaired hanger can now be used again instead of being thrown away. This simple plastic hanger repair method can also be useful for other small plastic items around the home, such as buckets, bowls, and children's plastic toys.
This is a simple example of a useful DIY repair hack that can help you save money and extend the life of everyday household items.
