make fidget toy with paper.JPG

Hi there thanks for stopping by and showing interest on my fidget toy that you can make at home with simple materials.

This paper fidget toy works beautifully and the colors and the motion makes this soo satisfying to watch and also to play with.

I made this using 5 different color papers and it can change its shape(to some extent) and obviously the color patterns when it is used gives a another level of feeling.

You can use this inverted or the other way round.

The main reason to build this fidget toy is for stress relief.

I can see in my circle and also outside most of them are stressed and want some sort of relieving source(obviously not talking about the mobile phones which are the main source for stress and anxiety!)

Making up some time for this and building and using this gives some relief to some extent.

Also using this helps to improve the nervous system since this involves hand eye coordination.

If you think this fidget toy would bring happiness in someone's face build it and spread the colors of joy(dont forget to post your make if you do so in the i made it section here on the instructables)

I have given the build instructions step by step so that even this instructables runs a little longer with more steps but don't worry it will explain you the building in very easy way.

Note that some of the text explanation inside the steps may confuse you, In that case watch the images on the step.

I have given a working video and the steps that i used to build this which you may find helpful, Don't forget to check that out.

The materials required to build this project are available in and around your house if not in the nearby stationary

Color paper (Choose unique colors not just the shades for better results) get it from amazon

Paper Glue

Ruler and pencil for markings

Some Patience!

Preparing the Color Paper

I will start with just one paper first, i recommend even you to work on single paper first and then you can work on multiple sheets at once.

The main motto here is to have the square shaped paper of 15x15cm dimensions.

You have to fold the paper into half first and cut it with scissors and now with ruler measure the paper.

Already one side will be 15cm since the color paper standard a4 size measures the 15cm.

Mark the other side of paper to 15cm and then cut the extra length and now use this as a reference sheet.

Repeat this same step for the other 9 sheets of paper, You can place 3 layers at once and mark and cut 3 layers together.

So if you repeat this 3 times you will have a 15cm square shaped paper that we will be working on in the later steps.

Vertical Pattern Preparation

Now all you have to do is fold the square shaped paper that you already prepared. start by folding in half and then fold it again.

To put it in simple words, if you are following the counter clockwise motion, Fold the paper in half and now you have half folded paper, now fold it again in ccwise direction.

In this point you will have a small fold opening between the paper fold, now fold this part into clockwise direction.

Now repeat the same step on the other half of the leftover fold.

This step creates a fold pattern in either vertical or horizontally(depends on how you view this).

Bends on the paper will make this fidget toy flexible which you will see in the next steps.

Open the folds and now you will see the lines in either vertical or the horizontal direction, now we can move with next step.

I have places my timer to check how long this takes and you can see how long did it take in the video tutorial.

More and More Folding

Now its time to make horizontal folds, these folds contribute to the overall working of the fidget toy while in action so be cautious while you fold.

Start by folding the paper in direction opposite to the fold, if you see the vertical pattern fold it horizontally.

Fold the paper in half like you did earlier and the steps are basically same what you did for the vertical fold part.

Fold the paper into half, then the half is folded again to half and then again for the last time.

Open the last fold and fold upwards and the left over piece also is folded.

Now just open the one later and you will see a spring type of square boxes.

Fold layer by layer until the paper collapses into a small box shape.

This shows that the progress is good until now.

Individual Pieces

This is some tricky part here in the entire build but don't worry i will explain it in a very simple way.

When you see the paper, you will have 2 ends, One end with the 2 piece of fold and the other end with 3 pieces.

We will work on the 2 piece side, gently open this fold part and you will see pattern like a staircase on both the sides.

Now if we divide this into left andright side start by folding this left side part layer after layer and parallely start folding right side too.

You will see the paper start to shrink and start to have the shape of V.

Gently split if needed if you don't see a V, this is the building piece of the project.

Repeat the same step on the remaining 9 pieces also and in the end we can join these.

Gluing Everything Together

At this point we now have the V shape, V here means the victory since until here it takes a lot of time to work on the each piece individually.

Going forward the build becomes easier and easier.

We will now have 10 pieces of V, Now these should be made as W!

Combining the two V will give the shape of W and we can achieve that just by adding glue and coupling these together.

This is simple, for the every fold you see between the joints add a tiny drop of glue and now join the other half and gently press and hold this parts together until they bond together.

Repeat the same steps for the other 4 pieces and keep it aside until they are dry completely.

Coupling the Halves

This is where the fidget toy comes to life, this step is very simple.

Before connecting these 2 parts make sure that the rest of the parts are fully dry and no glue is spilled anywhere on the paper.

Since i have used 5 parts (5x2=10 in total), glue each of them one after the other and keep it in pairs of same color.

Give it a press to stick firmly and release and keep for drying.

This may take some time, while gluing make sure not to use excess glue that will lead to more drying time.

In the end of this step you will have 2 separate halves and i will look like the letter M.

Add thin layers of glue on both the ends and stick them together, gently hold and press for some time since this part is very much important.

After some time keep the fidget toy aside for around 30 minutes so that glue is fully dry and the

Make Amazing Fidget Toy using Paper

Here is the video of this fidget toy that shows the working as well as full building steps.

I have used the stopwatch from my phone to monitor how long does it take to make this project and since i finished the project in one sitting you can expect to finish this in 5 to 6 hours in total.

This was all about this paper fidget toy, if you have any questions for me lets discuss.

Thank you and have a great day.
