How to Make Rope From Plastic Bottles Using a Simple Cutter

Did you know that you can make a strong rope from plastic bottles? Yes, it is possible to transform an ordinary plastic bottle into a durable plastic rope using a simple cutter.

This DIY plastic bottle rope technique can be very useful in emergency situations, camping trips, outdoor activities, or remote locations where you suddenly need a rope but do not have one available. If you have an empty plastic bottle and a simple cutting tool, you can create a strong plastic strip that can be twisted or combined to make a useful rope.

In this project, I will show you step by step how to make a simple plastic bottle rope cutter and use it to turn waste plastic bottles into a strong and practical rope.

1. Empty plastic bottles (PET bottles work best)
2. A small wooden piece or thick cardboard piece (for the cutter base)
3. Small drill or any tool for making holes
4. Two screws (around 2 inches long)
5. Four washers for adjusting and gripping the blade
6. A small sharp cutter blade
7. Nuts for tightening the screws
8. Pliers for tightening the screws
9. Scissors for cutting the starting strip from the bottle

First, take a small piece of wood or thick cardboard that will be used as the base of the cutter. Make two small holes in the material using a drill or any suitable tool.

Keep the distance between both holes around 1 to 1.5 centimeters so that the screws can hold the cutter blade properly.

Insert two screws into the holes you made in the wooden or cardboard base. The screws should be approximately 2 inches long.

After placing the screws, add two washers on each screw from the bottom side. These washers will create space and provide support for fixing the cutter blade.

Now place the small cutter blade between the two screws on top of the washers.

After placing the blade, add two more washers on both sides above the blade. These washers will hold the blade firmly from the top and bottom and keep it stable during operation.

Finally, tighten the screws properly using pliers so the cutter blade stays securely fixed in place.

Your homemade plastic bottle rope cutter is now ready.

Take an empty plastic bottle and completely remove the bottom section using a cutter or scissors.

After removing the bottom part, cut a small strip from the edge of the bottle. This small strip will act as the starting point for making the plastic rope.

Insert the starting plastic strip through the gap under the cutter blade.

Hold the wooden base of the cutter firmly with one hand, then slowly pull the plastic strip with the other hand.

As you pull the strip, the bottle will start rotating around the cutter, and a continuous plastic strip will begin coming out.

Continue pulling the plastic strip steadily. The bottle will keep rotating, and the plastic material will gradually turn into a long rope-like strip.

As the bottle gets smaller and finally finishes, you will have a long piece of strong plastic rope made from a single bottle.
