How to Make a Beautiful Clay Rainbow With Raindrops

In this project, I will show you how to make a colorful and beautiful rainbow with cute raindrops using modeling clay. It is a very simple, creative, and fun art piece that anyone can easily create at home.

First, I took different colors of modeling clay to start making the rainbow. I took a small piece of clay and used both of my hands to gently roll it on the table. I rolled it back and forth carefully until it turned into a long, thin, and smooth rope or stick. I repeated the same process for other colors as well, making sure they all had a similar thickness

Following the same rolling technique, I prepared long clay strips for all the different colors needed for the rainbow. As you can see, I have lined up the yellow, purple, green, dark blue, pink, and orange strips on the table. Now, I am rolling the last light blue clay piece to complete my colorful set. I kept them neatly arranged so it becomes easier to assemble them into a rainbow shape in the next steps.

Now, all my colorful clay strips are completely rolled and ready. I have arranged them nicely in a straight line on the surface to inspect their length and thickness. By putting them side-by-side (yellow, purple, green, blue, pink, orange, and light blue), I can make sure that all the colors look uniform and are perfectly prepared before I start curving them into the final rainbow shape.

In this step, I began shaping the rainbow by curving the first few clay sticks. I carefully took the yellow, pink, and orange clay strips and bent them gently into a smooth half-circle arch on the table. I pressed them slightly side-by-side so they stick together properly without losing their round shape. The remaining purple, blue, and green sticks are kept on the side, ready to be added next

Next, I took the remaining green, blue, and purple clay strips and placed them one by one below the first three colors. I carefully aligned them to follow the same half-circle shape, placing each color line-by-line in the correct order. Now, all the seven colors are attached together to form the complete rainbow layout on the table.

Once all the colors were in place, I used my palette knife to secure the shape. I carefully pressed the tool along the outer edge and over the clay strips to merge the layers tightly together. This helps to flatten any uneven areas, removes gaps between the colors, and ensures the entire rainbow structure sticks together firmly as one single piece.

After securing the layers, the bottom edges of the rainbow were uneven in length. I used a sharp tool to cut a straight line across the bottom, and in this step, I am removing the extra, unneeded pieces of clay from the base. This step makes the bottom of the rainbow perfectly even, sharp, and neat on both sides.

​With the main rainbow shape completely finished and trimmed, I moved on to creating the raindrops. I took small pieces of blue clay and rolled them into small balls first. In this step, I am gently pinching the top of each clay ball with my fingers to give it a perfect teardrop shape. You can see one completed raindrop on the table, and I am currently shaping the second one.

Here is the complete and final look of my beautiful clay rainbow art! I arranged the four cute raindrops nicely below the splay of seven colorful arches to look like a colorful rainy day. Everything is set perfectly, and the vibrant colors bring this simple piece of art to life. It is now ready to show or decorate your room!
