How to Make Broom from Plastic Bottle | Plastic Bottle BROOM

Can you make a broom at home using waste material? Yes, you definitely can. In this project, I will explain in detail how I made an eco-friendly broom from old plastic bottles.

The best thing about this plastic bottle broom is that it cost me nothing because I made it completely free of cost using recycled materials. It is also a long-lasting broom that can be used for a long time.

Now, let’s discuss the complete process step by step.

Supplies

For this plastic bottle broom project, you will need:

  1. 3 old plastic bottles
  2. A pair of scissors
  3. A drill machine
  4. Screws
  5. A small piece of wood
  6. A pipe for the handle
  7. Bottle cap/neck area for fixing the handle
  8. Optional: cutter and gloves for safety

Collect Old Plastic Bottles

First, collect three old plastic bottles. These bottles will be used to make the broom bristles. Make sure the bottles are clean and empty before starting the project

Cut the Bottom Part of the First Bottle

Take the first plastic bottle and cut off its bottom part using scissors or a cutter. After removing the bottom side, you will get the main body of the bottle ready for making bristles.

Cut Thin Strips to Make Bristles

Now start cutting the bottle body into thin strips. Cut carefully with scissors from the bottom side toward the upper side. These thin strips will work like broom bristles.

Do not cut the strips completely apart. Keep them attached to the upper part of the bottle so they stay connected.

Keep the Top Part of One Bottle

For one bottle, do not cut the top/neck part. This bottle will be used as the main upper bottle where the other bottle pieces will be adjusted. The cap side will also help later when fitting the pipe handle.

Prepare the Second Bottle

Now take the second plastic bottle. Cut both its bottom part and top part. After that, cut its body into thin strips in the same way. Leave a small upper area uncut so the strips remain attached together.

Prepare the Third Bottle

Repeat the same process with the third bottle. Cut the extra parts and convert the bottle body into thin plastic strips. In this way, all three bottles will be turned into broom bristles.

Adjust the Bottles Together

After preparing the bottles, place them inside one another. Keep the complete bottle with the top/neck part on the outside or upper side. Then insert the other two stripped bottle pieces inside it properly.

This will make the broom thicker and stronger because it will have more plastic bristles.

Fix the Bottles With Wood and Screws

To hold the bottles firmly, place a small piece of wood inside or near the upper part of the broom structure. Then use a drill machine and screws to tighten everything properly. This will keep all the bottle layers fixed together.

Attach the Pipe Handle

Now remove the bottle cap from the top side. Take a pipe according to the size of the bottle neck and fit it inside the opening. This pipe will work as the broom handle.

Make sure the pipe is fitted tightly so the broom does not become loose while cleaning.

Use the Plastic Bottle Broom for Cleaning

Now your strong homemade plastic bottle broom is ready. You can use it for cleaning floors, outdoor areas, yards, or rough surfaces. It is a simple, useful, and eco-friendly way to recycle plastic bottles at home.
