This tutorial will show you how to make your own personalized bookmarks! By customizing the materials used, you can create a truly one-of-a-kind item.

Supplies

  1. Flowers of your choice: Make sure to choose a flower that will keep its colour after being pressed
  2. Two Paper Tea Bags
  3. Mod-Podge OR a mix of equal parts craft glue and water
  4. Wax Paper
  5. Lace OR Washi Tape
  6. Basic Sewing Supplies for attaching lace, if you chose

Trim the stems off the flowers.

Arrange the flowers between two layers of wax paper.

Press the flowers beneath a heavy weight- a stack of books works well.

Leave the flowers under the weight for 1-2 weeks; the flowers should be completely flattened and somewhat dry.

Prepare the Tea Bags

Start by brewing two cups of tea.

After you (and maybe a friend) have enjoyed a cuppa, snip the string that attaches the tag.

Unfold the bag in the way shown in the photos. Be careful not to tear the paper!

Seperate the bag along the seam.

Gently wash the old leaves off of the paper.

Lay both papers out to dry completely.

Assemble and Glue the Layers

Work on a sheet of wax paper.

Apply glue to the bottom paper.

Arrange the flowers in the desired position.

Apply a light touch of glue to the flowers.

Place the top paper and give a final brush of glue.

Cover with another sheet of wax paper.

Place weights on top to ensure that the bookmark dries flat and even.

Allow the bookmark to dry completely.

Attach Trim

If you've chosen to use washi tape, you may attach that now.

If you've chosen to use lace, attach it either by hand or with a machine (use a long looser stitch if you use a machine).

Finish
