How to Massage Your Hair in 3 Simple Steps!

Hair massage is so underrated, it's not even funny. When I was younger, my mum used to religiously sit me down and massage my hair and scalp with coconut oil. All I can remember is how much I used to hate everything about it. The smell, the feeling, all of it!

Fast forward 2 decades later, and quite a bit has changed. I'm not as youthful as I once was, and my hair has taken its share of abuse. The one remedy that continues to work time and again is an oil hair massage, and here's why I can't get enough of it:

1. It keeps the hair on my head!-My hair loss is drastically reduced after a hair/scalp massage!

2. It feels great-If you thought a back massage felt great, boy are you in for a surprise!

3. My hair looks restored!-And shinier, and thicker, with more volume!

Ultimately, you really have to try it in order to reap the benefits. The good news is that massaging your hair with oil is child's play. Anyone can do it! Here's how I get it done in 3 simple steps!

Get Some Oil!

There's tons of oils to choose from, but I use Indian Amla oil. Why Amla oil? Simply because I've seen the most benefits come from using this type of oil. That doesn't mean there aren't better oils out there. I'm just sharing what's worked for me. Pick whatever oil you like, and give it a shot! Some people even make their own oil. That's how you can really get creative!

Amla is cheap, easy to apply, and incredibly effective!

Massage!

This next step can be as simple or as complicated as you want it to be. I go by one rule and one rule only:

Massage hair roots 80% of the time, and spend the remaining 20% on the rest of the hair.

Why so much emphasis on hair roots? Because that's where hair growth starts! Pour some oil onto your palm, rub both hands, and start massaging. You'll want to move in circular motions ensuring your fingers are firm. Ideally you should have some pressure on the scalp, but not enough to cause pain or damage.

Take your time and slow it down! This is important. Exaggerate the motions and visualize the benefits to your hair and scalp!

Pro Tip #1: If you can get someone to massage your hair for you, nothing like it!

Pro Tip #2: Take your massage to the next level by using an electric scalp massager. Here's a post I wrote about these devices.

Leave for an Hour and Then Wash!

Last and final step is my favorite, and that's because it involves doing nothing!

Use a shower cap to cover your hair, and leave it like that for an hour. Maybe watch your favorite TV show until then! After an hour, wash thoroughly with shampoo to get rid of all the oil and dirt. You can condition your hair too if you please.

Congratulations, you made it to the end! To get the best results, rinse and repeat this instructable over and over and over. Incorporate hair massage into your weekly/bi-weekly routine. Make it a habit!
