Clean the Old Axe Properly
First, take an old and dull axe that needs sharpening. Before starting the sharpening process, clean the axe thoroughly. Remove any dust, dirt, or rust from the blade surface to ensure a smoother sharpening process.
Secure the Axe in Place
After cleaning, fix the axe firmly in a stable position where it cannot move during sharpening. A bench vise can be used to hold the axe securely and provide better control while working.
Sharpen the First Side of the Axe Blade
Once the axe is properly fixed, start sharpening one side of the blade using a metal file. Move the file along the edge of the blade with consistent strokes while maintaining the correct angle. Continue filing until the edge becomes sharper and smoother.
Sharpen the Other Side
After sharpening one side, reposition the axe in the vise and secure the opposite side. Repeat the same filing process on the other side of the blade to create an even and balanced sharp edge.
Check the Sharpness
After completing both sides, inspect the axe blade and check its sharpness. With proper filing, the dull axe can be restored into a sharp and usable tool again.
