How to Swap Oakley Holbrook Lenses in Under a Minute

15.jpg

The Holbrook is Oakley's best-selling lifestyle frame and it's got one of the most satisfying lens replacement mechanisms out there. Once you know the trick, it takes about 30 seconds per lens.

Where people go wrong: they try to push the lens out from the front or the back, which does nothing. The lens releases from the inner edge near the nose bridge by pressing the outer temple corner inward. That's the whole secret.

Oakley designed the O Matter frame to flex. It's intentional. No tools, no heat, no screwdrivers. Just your thumbs and the right direction of pressure.

Check your size before ordering: the standard Holbrook comes in 55 mm or 57 mm. Look inside the temple arm for OO9102 followed by the colour code, then either 55 or 57. These two sizes are not interchangeable.

Check Your Size — 55 Mm or 57 Mm

Look inside the temple arm for the stamp OO9102 followed by a colour code and then either 55 or 57. That's your lens size.

These two sizes are not interchangeable. A 57 mm lens will not seat correctly in a 55 mm frame. Getting this wrong is the only way this repair can go wrong.

Hold the Frame the Right Way

Hold the frame with the front facing you and the lenses pointing away. Your fingers grip the outer rim sections above and below the lens near the hinges. Keep your thumbs free.

One thumb goes on the outer lower corner of the lens (temple side) and pushes inward toward the nose. The other thumb gently pushes the inner bridge edge outward. That opposing pressure is what releases the lens.

Press and Release

Apply inward pressure on the outer lower corner with one thumb. The O Matter frame flexes slightly — you'll feel the inner retaining ridge release. The lens will pivot outward from the bridge side like a door hinging open.

Don't yank it. Let it swing free naturally. Once you've heard the pop a few times you'll recognise it immediately.

Lift the Lens Out

Once the inner edge is free, the lens pivots outward. Hold it with the microfiber cloth and lift it gently away from the outer channel. Almost no force required.

Set the old lens lens-side-down on the cloth. Even if it's scratched, treat the Prizm coating with respect while you work.

Insert the New Lens — Outer Edge First

Using the microfiber cloth, insert the outer edge of the new lens into the outer frame channel first. The temple side goes in first.

Once seated on the outer edge, press the inner bridge edge inward and upward until you hear the click as it locks into the retaining ridge. Walk your thumbs around the perimeter to confirm everything is seated evenly.

Flex Test — You're Done

Flex the frame gently. The lens should not shift or come out. If it moves at all, the inner ridge isn't fully engaged. Remove and repeat the previous step.

The Oakley O icon should sit in the lower outer quadrant of the lens on a standard Holbrook. Check the position to confirm the lens is correctly oriented.
