How to Wire an Outlet

This is a how to guide for how to wire an outlet.

Supplies

must have ground wire, black wire, white wire, voltage tester, screw driver and decora ouutlet and a wall plate

If incompetent electrically, don’t attempt this instructable

First, go to Home Depot

Buy Decora 15 Amp Tamper-Resistant Slim GFCI Receptacle/Outlet

Make sure you have a flathead screw driver, some wire strippers, and a voltage tester

Go to the wall where the outlet is going into(there will be hole in wall with wires accessible

Test wires with a voltage tester

If it's live, then turn off the breaker

Identify your black wire(hot) your white wire(neutral) and bare

Strip off ¾ off an inch off the end of the black wire

- Insert the black wire into the gold screw. Make sure it is tight. Put it on the left side of the screw when inserting

Strip off ¾ of an inch from the end of the white wire

Insert the white wire into the silver screw. Make sure it is tight, put it in the left side of the screw when inserting

Insert the ground wire into the green screw make sure it is tight

insert resptical into the hole for the wall

Line up holes in reseptical with holes for screws in the wall

Insert screws

Now get a cover for the receptacle and insert it over the receptacle

Insert screws
