LEGO Rock Clock

Intro

This project is a simple "working" LEGO Clock that uses rock as the weight that Powers the whole thing, no electricity required. This is also not an exact science so as long as the basic mechanism is built you'll get a working product to brag to your friends about.

How it Works

The clock works by having the string holding the rock weight wrapped around tons of times so that as the rock pulls down it turns the axle, which turns the three pronged item. As the three pronged item is wanting to spin it is also trying to push the red half square item in the picture forward, that item is directly connected to the pendulum (black Technic axle connect to the LEGO tires) which sets the pace of the clock as the 3 pronged item can only spin when it pushes the pendulum and keeps the pendulum going as the rock is pulling down for it to spin.

You'll need a rock that is big enough to feel heavy but small enough to fit in a a LEGO box like a 6x6x6 (LEGO units) sized rock. You'll also need both regular and Technic LEGO pieces for this project. Lastly you'll need string, preferably thin.

First, Obviously grab a rock. then make a shell that is big and stone enough to hold it, and attach a string to that box. Feel free to make it look cool or able to support bigger rock and longer string, the more personalized the better.

Now add to a Technic axle a way to tie up one end of the string and make it have some sort of walls for tons of wrapping. Then add the 3 pronged object (technically could be more or less but in my example I used 3) to an end of the axle. I added a frame that was built with tons of support but as long as you build a frame that can support the pendulum mechanism above the 3 pronged abject you'll be fine.

Now build the pendulum, essentially make the axles connect together and add weight at the end, and hook it up to the red object that connects to the 3 pronged object, for this you may want to test out different combinations of parts to figure out which will fit your pronged abject as 1 size does not fit all.

Once you put everything together in a way that is to your liking, the mechanics may not work on the first try (they definitely didn't for me) try and figure out how to make everything fit each other and sometimes you just need to start the pendulum manually before the rest becomes automatic. Once everything works, wind up the weight, hold it high, and watch as your new LEGO Rock Clock ticks to life. Hope you enjoy and would love feedback :)
