Limelight Frolic Thermal Extractor LCD Replacement and TCR Calibration
My Limelight frolic unit was used as a daily 420 driver in all weather conditions - steam, rain , snow and beaches until finally the LCD was damaged due to water in the bottom part of the device.
Apart from this defect the device is very strong and has survived hundreds of drops onto concrete.
Special thanks to TheGiggleGrass and Limelight for sending a free replacement LCD!
Pierce Anti-Tamper Plastic Disks
Using a flathead , puncture the disks in the center and pry them out
Note - this will void your warranty unless you discuss beforehand with your vendor or limelight
Remove the Fasteners
Two long and heavy fasteners that perhaps belong on a spaceship can be removed using a #4 allen key , they are torqued down pretty tight and attach to the bottom plate
Separate the Bottom Plate
As soon as the fasteners are off, hold the bottom plate and then shake the device, it should separate.
Disconnect the LCD Connector
Using a plastic tool or your nail, push the FPC lock upwards and pull out the broken LCD's ribbon connector.
Install New LCD
Connect the new LCD ribbon, push the lock downwards and then install the bottomplate while LCD is slotted diagonally as shown in the second pic. Once the display fits in properly, place the device upright to hold the assembly in place temporarily
Install the Fasteners
torque the fasteners down equally tight on both sides and then test the display(the fastener completes the battery connection)
TCR , Resistance Calibration and Preferences
OEM guide : https://limelightherb.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/08/TCR_Value_Disclaimer_Calibration.pdf
Calibrate your TCR after a new lcd is installed, to do so follow these steps or Limelight's official guide
Device must be turned off before it can enter this menu
1) Let the device cool down to room temp for at least 30 min
2) hold down the [- or +] and [pwr] button down till vibration starts , then release them
3) press pwr 5 times in succession to enter TCR menu
4) Use + and - to adjust TCR(default = 96). To adjust the oven resistance follow an additional trick at the end of the page.
You can press pwr 5 times to exit the menu.
[ You may find your device's fit within the following range :
TCR 94-96
MAX resistance .110 (do not attempt to trick beyond this limit) ]
Note - only adjust resistance to a higher value if you feel that the device is under heating as a higher ohm value can cause combustion at 240
Classic mouthpiece - TCR 96 , Resistance .106 - .110 (varies by device , try the max temp and see if it combusts)
Direct output adapter - TCR 94 , Resistance .106 or the lowest the device goes on a cold oven
Resistance trick :
5) turn on the device to ON DEMAND , then press pwr button till green at 190 C
Then proceed to re enter TCR menu and read the values - pressing the power button once every few seconds will update the coil resistance. once you find a resistance value you want, exit the TCR menu and it will persist.
