Low Cost Jewelry Bust Display
Welcome to my project: Low-Cost Jewelry Bust Display.
How many times have you needed a jewelry display case and its prices are not affordable for your budget?
Well, I'm going to show you how to make your own low-cost display with a vintage and minimalist design, so join me!
Supplies
220g letter-size cardstock
Template
Scissors
Glue/Contact Cement
Cutter
Template
I worked on this 3D design in Blender but to obtain the respective templates After the 3D design, I transfered the model to paper.
In paper, you will be able to make the physical assembly of pieces in 3 dimensions according to the instructions.that will later be the guide for the physical assembly in 3 dimensions.
Here you can download the templates for the Jewelry Bust Display and then review step by step which one corresponds and guide you through the assembly.
Cardstock
Print the templates on cardstock and cut out each piece separately, then detail the edges as you prefer with a cutter or scissors
Transfer
If you cannot print on thick material, print on adhesive paper and transfer the templates to a harder material.
In my case I use cardstock.
Cut
Cut out all the pieces that were transferred to the cardboard, and then define the edges very carefully.
Marking
using an old pen, mark the lines to create the folds.
Please note that in some areas the folding tabs are valley-shaped and in others mountain-shaped.
Folds
Here you can see the tabs in more detail, although the template PDF is already updated with the sections for valley and mountain, so keep that in mind.
Valleys and Mountains
Valleys and mountains are the two fundamental types of paper folds in papercraft, acting as the foundation for creating 3D structures from 2D paper. A valley fold forms a "V" shape (concave) with the paper sloping down, while a mountain fold forms a ridge "Ʌ" (convex)
Neck Base
Now use the images as a guide to form the collar. Form the collar radially, following the order of the templates. Start by joining the front pieces in pairs, then the side pieces, and finally the back piece. Then join all 12 pieces together.
Neck
Now finish gluing until there are no gaps left.
Back Piece
At this point I realized that the type of glue you use is key, so I changed the type of glue from cold glue to contact cement, since the drying time of the cold glue didn't give me a good grip between the pieces and since these generate an outward pressure due to the curved design, I preferred to change to a glue with stronger adhesion
Glue the side tabs one by one, first the top and then the bottom, then start gluing the other intermediate tabs until the entire side piece is glued.
I also added the back flap that will join the collar with the curve of the back
Pieces
Now you can see the resulting pieces better, and the next step will be to join everything together to form the display bust figure.
Shoulders
The shoulders are the piece that surrounds the neck and consists of 3 pieces which must be glued together as shown in the first image.
This will result in the back, neck, shoulders, and front chest flaps
Cobra Shoulders
Now glue the shoulders from one end to the opposite end, forming the shape of a cobra snake.
Join
In the resulting space, position the previously made collar, taking into account the numbering of the collar pieces on the templates.
We're Almost Done
Attach the collar by filling in the shoulder circumference, flap by flap.
Use the symmetrical guide for the center backrest and the shoulder piece.
Front Flap
Now place the front chest flap, and it's key to leave this flap until last since we can apply pressure to the sides and gently glue it down perfectly. Apply contact adhesive and glue each flap individually.
Finished Piece
Here you can see the finished piece. You can make it in the material of your choice, such as cardboard or EVA foam, as long as it is flexible. Furthermore, you can then give it any type of finish you have in mind.
Jewelry Bust Display
Conclusion:
This bust is perfect for displaying your jewelry. Besides being elegant, its value stands out: quality and price.
After assembling it, you can paint it, cover it with fabric, coat it with resin, or do whatever you like with it. It's ready to show off all your jewelry.
Nobody will believe it's made of cardboard
Thanks for checking out my project.
