Macrame Beaded Necklace

Beginner Friendly Macrame Necklace Tutorial | Boho Pendant with Natural Stone Beads

I wanted to try making something creative with my own hands, so I decided to make this macrame necklace using cords and beads. I’ve always liked simple handmade jewelry, and this design really inspired me because it looks detailed but is actually made step by step using basic knots.

At the start, I honestly thought it might be a bit difficult, but once I got into it, it became really interesting and even relaxing. Watching the pattern slowly come together and turn into a proper necklace felt really satisfying.

For me, this project is not just about making a necklace, it’s about trying something new, being patient, and enjoying the process.

Establish the Base Cords and Locate Center

Put your two long cords out flat for the base of your necklace. These cords will hold up the entire design. Line them up, then go find your center point. This is really important because the design grows from the center, and if settings are all off in the middle of the necklace, then it can appear a bit unbalanced. So be sure both sides are the same before proceeding.

Add the Short Cords With Starter Knots

Next, using simple knots, start attaching the shorter cords onto the base cords. That's the basic structure of the pendant. It will be a little hard at first, but with a couple more knots it eventually becomes easier. Avoid knot-tying that is too bulky and be sure to tighten only finger-tight. Don't pull too hard — uneven tension will affect your final shape.

Assemble the Fan Shape Piece by Piece

Keep knotting away from the center to create a fan shape. The main design of the necklace. Go slow and measure both sides often to keep them even. Try to keep the spacing and tightness of the knots consistent. This step takes a lot of patience, but is when the necklace really begins to look beautiful.

Insert Color Rows for Design

After you finish the base shape start attaching cords of different colors to make a pattern. This feminist approach adds an appeal and dimension to the necklace. Be sure to stay on the shape and make sure your rows are smooth and even. This step allows creativity to the design, so go slow and have fun!

String on the Beads and Secure

Instead, put the main bead at center and tighten the surrounding cords to hold it in place. Alternatively, you could introduce smaller beads purely for decorative purposes. Ensure the beads are tight and align properly in your design. This step adds more of a finishing touch and elegance to the necklace.

Make a Closure and Finish the Necklace

Finally, add an adjustable closure so the necklace can be put on and removed with relative ease. Then cut any excess cords neatly and melt the ends with a lighter to stop them from fraying. Check the whole necklace again, adjust if necessary.
