Make a Better D.I.Y. Duct Tape Wallet
This is the Duct Tape wallet 3000!!!!!!!!!! it's my third version of the duct tape wallet an original idea... right... and it's better than the 2000 and 1000 for so many reasons!
- It uses cardstock
- It's cooler
- It's gray and red
- More storage
- It just is
MIND YOU this tutorial will be equivalent to the length of a Spanish-French-German-Chinese-English Dictionary.
Supplies
- Duct tape obviously
- Cardstock/Index cards
- Scissors
- Something to measure length with
- Something to fasten like double sided tape, rivet things, or velcro (optional)
- Padlock (Optional)
- Hole puncher for padlock, drill if you can't do it
If you use a padlock and you use a keyed padlock, it would be a dumb idea to put that key inside the wallet's key holder for obvious reasons:
- You couldn't open your wallet
- Someone may put their fingers in and steal the key
Reasons why a padlock is good:
- Extra protection
- Padlocks are cool
Reasons why padlocks are bad
- People will get impatient when you need to open it
- It may become tedious
- You'd have to keep the key somewhere if it's not combination
- You will always have a metal chunk in your rear end when sitting down
- The wallet is duct tape and cardstock, so someone could easily cut the lock off and steal the lock and open the wallet.
I'm using double sided tape because I don't have any rivet things or velcro
Tape probably won't stick that well
You can get rivets from the store, or jeans, or 9-volt batteries although the last one is not recommended.
The Cardstock
There will be 3 folds in this wallet like an L-shape, and each fold will be the size of and index cards... But unfortunately I don't have any index cards so I'll just use cardstock. If you use index cards make sure they're 3" by 5". You can cut off the edges if you need to. So if you're using index cards then you're ready for the next step. But if you're not then stay on this one.
-------------------------
So you're going to get the ruler and the pencil (I'm using marker because my camera's not that great) and go to the long side of the paper and mark every 3 inches. And then on both short sides mark up 5 inches from the bottom. Then draw a line to connect both 5 inches. Now go back to the short side that has the 3 inch mark instead of the 2 inch mark, and start marking every 3 inches again. Then draw lines connecting those marks with the ones below them. Now, cut along all the lines. For now you'll only need the pieces in the picture.
And Now...
Arrange them like an L-shape.
The Tape, Center Stage
Tape each fold together.
Now, a Quick Costume Change
Wrap the wallet with duct tape. (I trimmed a little bit off one side.)
The Billfolds Have Appeared!
If you have scrap tape from decorating, you can use that to make billfolds. Otherwise, you can put a piece of tape face up on the table, then do the same again but halfway up. Then repeat that somewhere else and stick them together so that the outsides aren't sticky. Make each piece of tape 3 3/4 wide.
Key Holders
Now we can make 3 key holders. First, get a piece of tape 6 inches long, cut it in half then stick them together so that the outsides are not sticky. Repeat twice. On the second piece, cut 1 inch off lengthwise. Then tape the pieces of both tapes together you should end up with something similar to the picture.
Next, make a loop with another piece of tape, also 6 inches long, then tape it to the inside side of the fold that makes the L-shape. It's better on the inside so a key doesn't accidentally fall out the end. Then tape the TOPS of the key holders to the wallet and NOT the bottoms so that we can have another smaller billfold.
Cou De Crayon
Pen holder: Make the thing in the picture, it's tape that's not sticky on either side that holds a pen.
BONUS!
If your wallet won't stay shut, then cut in between the folds and separate them by 1/2 an inch, then put on some new tape.
Another Billfold??????????
Just put 2 pieces of tape together so that it's not sticky, tape it to the wallet above the keys, and BOOM! Very simple!
Finished!
In my wallet I put cash, change, Sparetime, Dave & Busters, and Chuck E. Cheese cards, a pen, and if I still have it in a few years then my learner's permit then my driver's license and car keys.
I hope you found this tutorial helpful!
