Makey-Makey Tool Used to Help Patients With Cerebral Palsy Play the Google T-Rex Game

I created a custom tool using a Makey Makey kit to help patients with cerebral palsy interact more easily with digital games. The design is made so the user can press down the sides of the long skinny piece on the top either left or right to make the character in the game jump or crouch. It is done by putting copper tape at the ends of the base and the smlaaer piece. It uses a curved indent in the middle so the top piece can smoothly move left and right. The copper tape is connected to four alligator clips and those are connected to the Makey-Makey device. This design allows patients to engage in a fun and familiar activity while also supporting the development of motor skills, coordination, and confidence through interactive play.

Place your copper tape exactly as in the photo on the bottom and top piece. Cut off little rectangles out of the sponges, compress them, and try to place them on either side, in the middle of both halves.

Take 2 rubber bands and tie them together in the middle. Then take your top piece and put both thumb tacs through the holes, but dont fold the tips until you put one side of the rubber band on a single paper tac. Keep the second paper tac without attaching the rubber bands.

Now, place the top piece on the bump in the middle of the bottom piece. Take the side with the rubber band attached and pull the rubber band under the bottom piece and then pull it up and back and attack it to the nub of the paper tac. fold the tips of the paper tac and adjust the rubber band so that it is lined perfectly with the top piece. Your tool is now ready to play, so attack your alligator clips to each side of the copper tape sides on the bottom piece, and enjoy!
