Making your own treasure map is a fun and creative activity that anyone can enjoy! It is simple, exciting, and easy to make. You can design your map however you like and add your own special details to make it unique. I hope you have fun creating your very own treasure map and enjoy the adventure along the way!

Supplies

  1. Paper
  2. Pen
  3. Coloring supplies (optional, for decorating)
  4. Uncooked rice or another type of grain
  5. Coffee (optional, to give the paper an old, worn, and crinkly appearance)

Optional: Give It the Old Feeling

If you want to give your treasure map an old, crinkly feeling, soak the piece of paper in coffee and then let it dry. Make sure the paper is COMPLETELY dry before you start drawing on it. You’ll know it is dry when it stays flat and doesn’t bend when you pick it up. (I didn’t do this step in my version.)

Making the Land

To create the island or land on your treasure map, pour some rice onto your piece of paper. Once you have the rice where you want it, pick up your pen and carefully trace around the rice to create the shape of your island. You can trace around every single piece of rice if you want to, but I didn’t do that in my version. Once you are finished tracing, carefully pour the rice into the trash can.

Optional: Add Decorations

Now that you are finished with the land part, you can add all kinds of fun decorations to your treasure map! You can draw waves, add a title, create a border, mark the treasure with an “X,” draw animals in the water, add a compass, and much more. You can be as creative as you want and add anything that makes your treasure map feel unique and exciting!

Done

Now you are done! Your treasure map is complete and ready for an adventure. This is a fun and easy project to make when you are bored, need a break, or just want to do something creative. Every treasure map can be completely different and unique, so don’t be afraid to use your imagination and try new ideas. I hope you had fun making your treasure map, and I hope you enjoyed the adventure along the way!
